| My yorkie's testicles havent dropped..HELP! I just bought a tiny yorkie male that is 6 and a half months old and weighs less than 1.5 lbs. Today I noticed his testicles have not yet dropped. I don't even see or feel anything down there, a sack, nothing at all. This worries me because I know it can cause cancer later on in his life. I called the breeder and she told me they would take a little longer to drop because he is so tiny. She also told me to not let the vet talk me into getting him neutered because he most likely will die under amnestesia because he is just too tiny and she had a similar experience with trying to get a small boy fixed. I just got him the other day so I am going to the vet tomorrow to do a full checkup, but I would appreciate somebody who has advise or maybe been in the same situation as me with a really tiny yorkie to ease my mind until then. Is it normal to not even have a sack visible? Do the little ones take longer to drop? Thanks. |

| I had a 4 month old chihuahua that weighed 1 1/2 lbs and his testicles never dropped but I ended up fixing him when he turned a year old, he was then 4 lbs. and I could have probably done it sooner. I don't think they will come down for you especially at 6 months old. My vet told be to massage his testicles down and I actually tried that for a few weeks right when I got him, needless to say he loved it!! But it was all for naught!! I would just wait and see and let him get bigger and then fix him, it is true that they have a higher chance of testicular cancer when they are undistended. Good Luck with your little man!!

| I would take your vets advice. But I wouldnt neuter him until he gets alot bigger. I always hate the thought of putting any Yorkie under, especially the tinys. It can be so dangerous for a tiny. I would make sure your vet is very knowledgable in toy breeds also. My vet does surgery on birds and is very good with toys also. Its doubtful if his testicles will drop, especially since you cant even find the sacks, so the surgery is going to be more complicated and harder on the puppy. Best of luck! | Troy just turned 1 and his testicles never dropped. at 6 months he was 2.5 pounds and my vet wanted to neuter him then but I'm waiting til he reaches 4 pounds. I just don't feel comfortable putting him under being so small. I have noticed however that his sack has developed since he's gotten bigger so you might see a change there. |

Donating YT 4000 Club Member | Undescended testicles do pose a cancer risk in later life. And the surgery for neutering IS more invasive because they have to go in to the abdomen to retrieve them. That being said, how is it any worse for a male than it is for a female to undergo a spay? I know some people want to wait until their pup hits a magic weight. But if you have a vet who is familiar with toy breeds and you are comfortable with their care, then I would follow their recommendations as to when the surgery should be done.

| I just had my 6.5 month , 3.5 lb Yorkie Max neutered 2 days ago. He came through with flying colors! You'd never even know he had surgery. I decided NOT to go with the first vet I took him to because he didn't seem comfortable with Max's small size. I called and spoke with 5 other places before deciding on one that is very familiar and comfortable with toy breeds plus they operate on birds, ferrets and other small animals. I'm very happy that I listened to my "gut" about the first vet. Max had one testicle that had not yet descended so an extra incision was done. Luckily it was down about 90% of the way. The Dr. called it a cryptorchid which I had never heard before. He also pulled a couple of baby teeth and microchipped him while he was under. Of course, they did a pre-op blood test and it turned out great or none of this would have been done. Your baby is so tiny and it's always scary to anesthetize them even when they're bigger. You'll be able to tell if your Vet is comfortable with tiny ones like yours. If not, call around and see who is. If you find the right Dr. and wait until you're more comfortable everything should turn out fine. P.S. this is my first post so I hope it goes through. |

| stop fondling your dogs nether regions. Just kidding. When I first got Teegy the vet checked that their were indeed two. Can you actually feel them? His didn't drop until he was 6 months and then at 7 months they were chopped off. I thought it only fair to let him have them for a month. If you are worried check with the vet. |
