| your vet I got reffered to a vet in pasadena, CA which is around 20 min from my house. But i dont feel as if he is doing thorough of a job as he could be... when we went in for hershey's check up, after he felt him around and did some things, he would just say "well he seems healthy". inside, im thinking he SEEMS healthy?? so your saying you dont know for sure?? and when i would ask him questions about him he would say it in very vague way... such as "well he's not with me all the itme so i dont know how he really is.. but i would think..." and everything just seemed vague. am i overreacting? it IS my first time owning a pet so i have nver been to the vet before and i have no idea what they are like. but i just thought that they would be more certain and knowledgable about eveyr breed. how are your vets like? *oh and on our first visit he gave us a big purina pro plan food.. which i found from this forum that it is bad for dogs in general. so is he a bad vet?! and between welness puppy food and solid gold hundchen flocken puppy food, which ones better? im still deciding.. thanks alot Last edited by kys24; 02-23-2005 at 09:39 PM. |

| my vet is the same way. i don't think it is because he doesn't know what he is doing. he just isn't good at commumicating. backward maybe the word for it. i just ask the questions and he answers. doesn't elaborate on anything. that is why i try to do as much research as i can about things i want to ask him. i really have no other to compare him to either. i like him and he is good to my babies which makes he hesitate taking them else where. i can tell he really is caring. and he doesn't hurry me even if the waiting room is full. as far as the food is concerned (my thoughts) is as long as they can make money on it they will sell it.

| My vet did the same thing - gave me the big thing of puppy food. I ended up giving it to a friend. The secretary there told me it was a promotion through that company but that didn't neccessarily mean they were recommending that food. Did your vet take a stool sample or anything? Did your puppy get shots. Sometimes vets (like doctors) aren't great at communicating - other times they really don't know that much about every breed there is out there. My vet is knowledgable about small breeds which is why I go there. He's been a lifesaver for me - I'm probably his most annoying customer, we've been there SO many times with Sandy since we got her If you aren't happy with your vet, search around and find one you are comfortable with. I opened the yellow pages and called around, asking questions, etc. Didn't get anyone that minded Hope this helps a little!

| i was going to school and i wanted to become a vet soooooooooooo bad..... i spent some time with a family friend and they are a vet,..... well..... let me just say they sort of learn how to be vague because they dont realyl want to commit 100% one way or the other incase they give the pup a 100% clean bill of health, and then he gets sick............ it doesnt amke them a bad vet, i can give you the number of my vet in garden grove if you would like, they are really good, (and it is a low cost clinic) |

| I feel that we need to have the ability to put 100% trust into our vet(s). Each time we go into our vet we "hand over" our Yorkie to them. If we find ourselves second guessing or not feeling at ease I would say it might be time to maybe search out another vet. I am in no way saying this is the case with Hershey's vet whatsoever. I am just trying to stress the fact how important it is for you to be able to lay your Yorkie's life in your vets hands. Even if your friend recommended this vet to you, she might lets say, not be as peticular as you want to be with Hershey or such. And with this said it doesn't mean that this vet is not a great one. What's the saying? "What is good for the goose might not be good for the gander"...something like that?? Trust your instincts with Hershey, I find this works best.

| I think its important to find out if the vet cares for any other Yorkies in his practice. They are a breed with different needs than other breeds. My vet has other Yorkies in his practice and if he errors it is on the side of caution. When Chachi had diarhea/not eating problems they called me everyday to check on him. It reasures me with having a new young puppy.
