| natural flea preventation I don't want to give my furbabies the prescription medication to prevent fleas and ticks. It just seems to me that they could cause other health problems. Does anybody know of an alternative natural way to go or if using diluted skin so soft by avon is safe for them and if it works? I will continue to use the heartworm prevention because I want my babies protected against heartworms and I don't know of a natural alternative for that. |

| I've been wondering about this too. My vet just switched to vectra 3d after using frontline...it made my two act all weird and lethargic and they always acted so itchy after frontline plus. Hoping members will post with formulas to use, I found this link in a previous search Chinaroad Lowchens of Australia - Ticks, fleas, bees, flies, snakes and other gremlins! And how to deal with them! but am confused under the part about natural flea and tick and the mention of making a tea?? How exactly do you use this? Does anyone else have natural remedies you have actually used and they worked? and on ticks as well?

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Have you heard of Neem Oil / Neem Spray? This is commonly used in other parts of the world, and is less known here - but I'm seeing it more these last couple years. I think even Whole Foods has a Neem Spray in their pet section. Maybe something to look at?

| I heard about Neem, but never tried it. It's a natural botanical insecticide and can be used as a spray and shampoo to control fleas and ticks. I also heard about another natural botanical insecticide called Citronella that works well too and is similar to Neem. I've also hear that steeping thinly sliced lemons in hot water overnight, then rinsing or spraying your dog with the lukewarm liquid works. Those are some options to use directly on your dog. They also have natural flea and tick collars on the market now. Not to sure about how those work. To tackle the outdoor flea problem - were the problem may be starting - try beneficial nematodes or diatomaceous earth from garden centers. One can also spray a mist of oil and wintergreen on their dog or in their home to help.

| I use a Neem shampoo weekly for my guys and brewers yeast with garlic tabs. We had been using the vet topical solutions and every single one has not worked. I think fleas are just so bad here this year that nothing is working. We're retreating our home and yard over the weekend and bathing the babies at work as well. Start fresh. It's my last resort, but Adams Flea & Tick PLUS mist has been my savior. I hate to use chemicals, but it's the only thing keeping fleas off this year.
