| Spay, Baby Teeth and Dew Claws?? I am scheduling Emee to be spayed and have her baby teeth removed. She will be 9 months old on July 3rd and is now 4 pounds. She has 3 canine teeth that will need to be pulled as well as her back and front dew claws. The vet prefers to only remove the rear dew claws along with the 3 canines and spay. Should I be having both the front and rear claws removed? Is this too much to do at the same time as teeth and spay. As always, thank you everyone for your help.

Phantom Queen Morrigan Donating Member | if he's gonna do the back ones why can't he do the fronts as well? i'd either have them all done or none done. tell him its breed standard to not have any dew claws and if he's going to remove the backs then he needs to remove the fronts. do her dew claws get caught on things? why are you wanting to remove them now? if they aren't causing problems i'd just leave them alone. Morgan has one front dew that grew back. apparently it wasn't removed properly by the breeder.

| It's not too much to do at once. They will be monitoring her and dogs are fine under anesthesia even for long periods as long as they stay stable. Obviously the longer they are under, the more chance for something to happen, but generally it is fine. And I'd also wonder why they are being removed? Are they getting caught on things?

| My Mabel just had all those things done plus she was micro-chipped also. The surgery went fine. The only thing i would be concerned about is when you get home and the dog starts to heal. I had a hard time keeping her from chewing on her incisions. She got to hers even tho she had a cone on! I would def have all this done at one time as not to give anesthesia on another occasion. Might have a little longer recovery time after doing front and back dewclaws but not much longer. Mabel is fine now after 2 weeks of recovery...even tho she chewed every one of her stitches out!!! Well she saved me another visit to vet to have tham removed!!! Good luck and don't worry your baby will come out fine...they are a lot sturdier and hardier than they look!

| Thank you for the responses. The vet is concerned about the back claws getting caught. She is more concerned about the back than the front, that is why she is suggesting to remove only the rear. She had not yet caugth them but if any of my dogs will...it will be her.
