Just wanted to see what everyone thinks of the Calming pills or gels.Petco sells both,my yorkie gets sooo hyper sometimes that I think he's going to jump out of his skin!!!I don't want to constantly give it to him,just on days when hes being a mental case.I'm not sure what to do I don't want to turn him into a drug addict lol!What do you think!Oh and btw he goes for a walk at least 6 times a day,he just never seems to get tired!lol

I've never heard of them, but I definitely would not give them to my pets no matter how hyper they were. But that's just me; "Just Say No"....

Puppies are pretty active, they play hard then take a nap. Exercise and toys are important, and in time he will mellow out. Getting a schedule in place will help develop his routine.

How old is Max??
If he's still a puppy, its normal...most pups are very active.

I would hold off on calming meds.

i wouldn't give him that. Yorkies are naturally mental cases. LOL get used to it. they all have their crazy moments and they'll zoom around the room, growling and barking like a mad man. Morgan is 4 and she still does this, in fact she just did her zoomies this morning while we were outside.

The calming aids are not to calm them from being hyper... it's supposed to help in situation like separation anxiety or any other situation that makes a dog anxious (cars, vets, etc). Like someone else said, yorkies are natural mental cases. I don't know how old your yorkie is, but if he is still a puppy, then he's going to have a lot of energy. It's natural and I'd let him be and enjoy his youthful energy.

yeah they are used for things like car sickness, etc

I am not big on using drugs unless absolutely necessary as you may be asking for more than just a hyper dog

Trust me you do not want that as I would take hyper over that any day

check out the sick and injured section and health and diet and go give your hyper pup a big kiss lollllll

Those aren't meant for normal excited behavior- they are meant for very occasional use only (like bad thunder storms, fireworks, etc)

Thiamine and Pyroxidine HCL are B vitamins, they actually help the body produce energy.

L-tryptophan deficiency has been implicated in chronic depression/anxiety in dogs. It's a precursor to seratonin which is a neuro transmitter that helps promote a feeling of well being. But if it's not deficient in the body, adding more isn't going to suddenly calm your pet down.

Skullcap is used as an anti-convulsant, anti-spasmodic. It can be toxic in large doses.

Hops has been linked to several cases of malignant hyperthermia in dogs (the temperature control center of the brain is affected, causing the temperature to raise to unsafe levels). It is almost always fatal.

Maybe take him to a dog park everyday to get out his energy....just let him RUN and RUN. My two sure can't get enough energy out just by walking....lol. I go to a big grassy area or the dog park and let them GO.

Before I got them, I read that they were good indoor dogs that needed little exercise.....not even true. Don't forget the water...

I would hold off on any medications to calm him down unless it is negatively impacting his health in some way, like severe separation anxiety to the point of injuring himself.

Walks do very little for mine too as far as getting their energy out. Mine need to RUN and RUN and RUN!

Do you have access to a fenced in area where you can let him get his energy out?

Cody is 5 months old and I agree that exercise is really important. I take him for a walk every morning, and it helps a great deal in making him less hyper. He usually naps off and on in the morning after the walk. You gotta love their energy!
