L-tryptophan deficiency has been implicated in chronic depression/anxiety in dogs. It's a precursor to seratonin which is a neuro transmitter that helps promote a feeling of well being. But if it's not deficient in the body, adding more isn't going to suddenly calm your pet down.
Skullcap is used as an anti-convulsant, anti-spasmodic. It can be toxic in large doses.
Hops has been linked to several cases of malignant hyperthermia in dogs (the temperature control center of the brain is affected, causing the temperature to raise to unsafe levels). It is almost always fatal. |
