| Dry skin My little guy has dry skin I think. He scratches all of the time and I have noticed 'dandruff' on his ears. I am currently using oatmeal shampoo and I bathe him once a week. Does anyone have any suggestions on what to use to help with this. Should I bathe him less or more? Also I use puppy bathing wipes during the week too. Does this affect his dry skin? Thanks!

| Hi! My girl has dry skin too. What kind of food are you feeding him? Have you showed your vet? You should show your vet so that he/she is aware of it. It could be just dry skin, or it could be allergies. Several things to consider are: adding oil to their daily intake - organic coconut oil is suppose to be good good food - chicken and/or grain can cause problems so it's trial & error good shampoo - oatmeal is good - once a week bathing should be ok brushing! I've been using a good brush and brushing my girl daily and it seems like it's clearing up her problem. She doesn't really scratch alot but she did have what looked like cradle cap. So keeping her scalp clean & clear seems to be helping. I am going to try the coconut oil though. I did have them on some oil from the vet's office but it didn't help.

| Oh, just reread your post. Where do you use the baby wipes? All over? Some people use them but I've just used a wet, warm, washcloth when I needed to touch mine up - especially when they're pups. Biogroom is a pretty good product for pups. Either the puppy or oatmeal shampoo should be fine. Weekly bathing is fine. I've heard people say that it only takes them a few minutes to bathe their little ones but that concerns me because "rinsing" them well is very important. Leaving shampoo residue can cause flakes and itching.

| i totally relate, my girl has dry skin too. i also bathe her using an oatmeal shampoo about once a week. i saw a great holistic vet recently (she is very well known for her vaccine protocol) and she approved of the food i was giving her (blue buffalo) and told me to also give her coconut oil. interestingly enough, she also told me to use murphy's oil soap (YES, you read it right!!) after her bath. she said to take a little in the tips of my finger and massage it in where i see the problem areas and then gently rinse it off. i haven't tried it yet, but i will for her next bath!! |

| Thanks guys...I do use the wipes all over usually like twice a week. I think I might stop that for now. His food is not the best but I have been having a terrible time getting him to eat so my vet said whatever he will eat, then let him for now since he is super-tiny. I think I will show my vet. We have an appointment for vaccines soon. It does look like 'cradle cap' on his ears....weird. I will try rinsing him better also. Thanks for your suggestions guys!

| What Oatmeal Shampoo are you using? It's it's human shampoo, most are made with sulfates that dry out the skin. I would switch to Theraneemor Earthbath Oatmeal and Aloe. Adding Fish Oils really help with the dry skin. I would also add some Great Life Digestive Enzymes to help your loved one absorb all the nutrients in the food, it also helped a lot with the dandruff. |

| I use Tropiclean hypoallergenic shampoo (get at Petco) and I feed Natural Balance Venison & Sweet Potato. I also give an AllerG-3 Omega pill daily.
