Donating YT 4000 Club Member | I would be seriously concerned at the continued problems with the hypoglycemia still occurring at the vets office. In a normally healthy pup, the sugar would rebound quickly with nutrical and most definitely improve with an IV. I definitely would be concerned about an underlying problem here. |

| Thank you both for your replies. As far as I know, the pup has been at the vet all day & has been receiving an IV with stuff to increase the blood sugar. The vet has tried to coax the pup to eat but has not succeeded. That is why the pup is staying the night with the vet tonight. So, they are trying to get her to eat but she just isn't eating. As far as her being "better", I'm just repeating what's being told to me. She said she's lifting her head & standing more. She still sounds very weak to me, though. The breeder took the mom to the vet's office this afternoon to let them be together & see if the pup would nurse...but she wouldn't even nurse. The mom has been weaning them anyway, but I guess they were hoping to get something in the puppy. I just don't know. Even if I don't choose this pup, I want her to recover & be healthy. I hate to see any little one struggling with an illness. I am hoping for some better answers when we go see these babies this weekend. I'm just torn as to what to do if I see her and fall in love... |

| Just checking to see if you've heard any news. I hope the little one is better this morning. I know you were just relaying what you were told about her. I'm just surprised that neither the vet nor the breeder fed that baby. In a situation such as this, they must eat, even if it means being force fed. If they won't eat (due to being weak) watering down some canned food and syringing it into them may be the only way, but it will work. Once they've regained some strength, they should eat on their own but they will not get better without eating. Just passing this along in case you are ever confronted with this, whether with this baby or any other you may choose.

| My Morkie Puppy Will Not Eat I have a morkie named Spike, who is 4 1/2 months old. I have had him since April 2, and still can not get him to eat well. When I first brought him home I tried Royal Canin dry food and he would eat like 4 or 5 little kibbles at a time and that was it. After a few days he wouldn't eat this at all. I tried the prescription a/d from the vet and it gave him serious diarrhea. Over the past 2 months I have tried several canned and dry foods. He will eat something once or twice then refuse it. Since he has had several seizures, the vet has told us to give him whatever he wants including people food. She said as long as he will eat it, we should give it to him. So, we tried cooking him beef with rice and turkey with vegetables but got the same response (he likes it once and that's it) I have been giving him Nutri-cal 2-3 times a day and he loved that until the past few days I practically have to force it in his mouth. I do not know what to do and I do not feel like the vet is that helpful so I am looking for anyone who might have advice. Please share any ideas you have to help me get my little guy to eat. |

| Update Not good news for the little one. Unfortunately the pup didn't make it. I was told that she was doing well & actually went home. She then vomited and aspirated. Very sad. The breeder was very upset about the loss. The other 3 in the litter appear very healthy & were all playing & eating like normal. DH and I still visited & picked out another puppy. I really hadn't planned to put down a deposit on one just yet, but this little gal stole my heart. She is precious & was very lively and playful. At her six week vet check, she weighed 1.2 lbs...She goes in again tomorrow and I'm anxious to see how she's grown. I'm hoping she'll make it to atleast 4 lbs full grown. She won't come home with us for atleast another 4 weeks. It's gonna be a long 4 weeks! I've got some pics, but they are on my other computer...will try to add them later. |
