She is fed at; water & puppy food at 9AM, 12noon, 3PM and last one at 6pm. water only at 9PM I leave all items out for only 30min. Then I remove it. Am I feeding her too much or too little considering she is 5months old? |

| How much and what are you feeding? Water should not be picked up. Four times a day is fine (may be able to drop down to three). How much does she weigh? Any problems with hypoglycemia? I'd spread the meals out a little more if possible. It may be better to feed her closer to bedtime instead of at six. The way it is now, there is 15 hours between feedings.

| I am feeding her a little less then a handful of Eukanuba (for puppy small bread 20lbs and under). I also give her Canine Carry Outs chewy snacks (Beef Flavor) for when I train her. So I should leave her water out through out the day? May 25, 2010 she had a check-up. Her weight is 3.8lbs and was given the the following; Canine DHPP Vaccine Rabies Vaccination and Tri-Heart Plus 0-25lbs.#1 (to prevent heartworms). The previous owner had given her between February 7, 2010 to May 2, 2010 the following; Panacur Wormer, Intervet Neopar Parvo Shot, Neo Tech LLC. 5-1 Puppy Shot, Progard Intervet Marquis, Bayer Is there anything else I should do, you think? |

Donating YT 4000 Club Member | She's about the same age as Rhett (he was born 1/22). I've been feeding him 3 times a day, 7a.m.-1 p.m. -7p.m. My vet has said he's big enough to go to 2x/day, so we will be working on that. We've never had any problems with hypoglycemia, but he's a bigger boy (6+ lbs). How big is your little girl? Not all yorkies will have problems with hypoglycemia, but the smaller they are, the more likely they are to be at risk for them. It's a good idea to become aware of the risk factors and signs so you can be prepared, just in case. http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/yor...oglycemia.html I don't free- water while I'm potty training, but I do offer it every hour. Sometimes he wants it, most of the time he doesn't, but it does give me a good idea that if he does drink, we'd better head outside in about 15 minutes. Congrats on your new baby. Mine is the love of my life. |

| Congratulations on your new "baby". I have a new "baby" too. I feed my little girl 3 x's per day and leave water out 24/7. And whatever "Princess" does not finish eating, I leave in the bowl for her to eat thru out the day between feedings. I also have been giving her Nutri Cal, daily to try to make sure she will not become hypoglycemic. |

| I agree that you must leave the water out all the time. I've never had a puppy, so I don't know about the food.

| Thank you Rhetts mamma for the advise! Shelldenae' is about 13.5 inches long and just a bit over 6inches tall. I agree on not free watering her because she is still in the training process. It makes it easier to track when I should monitor her for peepee time. (This works for me anyway) Perhaps tomorrow will will cut it down to 3 meals then next week 2 meals and see how it works. Roxiemama & Shoefemeyer thanks for the heads up. I will look into Nutri Cal as well. |

| When Bambino was four months old I fed him three times a day. Water was always out no matter what. Treats were handy when we trained and he went on his pee pad all by himself. Nutrical was given twice a week for him because he was a picky eater. Bambino is tiny and was always tiny (but VERY healthy) so it was important to feed him enough to keep his weight up. Once he hit 10 months he only wanted to eat twice a day. (9am and 6pm) I used to try to feed him more but he didn't want to and now he's four years old and a healthy boy. Since he was a picky eater since he was tiny we had to start him on wet food (vets orders) when he was about 6 mths. He eats that twice a day mixed with his kibble and then he has kibble out the rest of the day. it's all about what works for your baby. If she eats to much then don't keep the food out and feed her three times a day until she gets a little bigger and then regulate it to twice. If she's a picky eater then it may be a good idea to leave the food out since you know it's hard to get her to eat. My vet was awesome and what he recommended for me has kept Bambino at a healthy weight for his size. Double check with your vet! Good luck |

| I always gave my dogs access to water at all times. As for feeding I free fed until about 5 months then we went to 3 times a day. Now Pixie is almost 10 months and she gets fed 2 times a day.Pixie weighed about 4.5 at 5 months and now she weighs 5.5. she really hasn't changed much in measurments. She is 12 inches long and neck is 7 and girth is 12. Her measurements have stayed the same for about 3 months.

| I think you have misunderstood me regarding water. I don't give her water every 15hours. She receives water with her meals 4 times a day 9AM, 12NOON, 3PM and 6PM and the last water without food is at 9PM. I don't see how I am depriving her from water for 15 hours.... |

| I've fed Rocco 3x per day since he was 8 weeks old (6am, 12noon, 6pm), and he seems to do fine with this. He also gets a snack or two at night (maybe a biscuit or some training treats) and I have water down for him at all times (since he's not even 6 months old). If 4x per day is working for your pup, that's fine but I'd maybe spread out the feedings more (how early is she up/when to bed?). And it is a good idea you're doing to remove the food after 30min...this is good for hygiene as well as potty training. By the way, I'll be visiting your beautiful country next week as well as in July ...you're very fortunate to live in such a beautiful climate. And Welcome to YT!!!

Definitely have water out for her at all times. Specially during summer. Remember puppies dehydrate fast, plus there's nothing wrong with them having water around all the time. Water won't create any bad habits and it's not fattening. You should ALWAYS have water out. <3, Nathalie,Bambino and Lulu | |
