On a first bee sting I would make sure my dog was not allergic to a bee sting as in a tiny dog if you do not react quickly and just give benedryl the dog could die so once you know your dog does not have an allergic reaction to bees then yes benedryl is safe if your dog does not get amped up on it that is I have dealt with hives twice with dd as she has horrible allergies and she got hives from simplicef an antibiotic and once from we think she licked dh neck and we think his cologne caused her to break out in hives within an hour. They are hard to get rid of too and took 5 days each time Allergic reactions are nothing to mess with and can be deadly in some dogs as we saw with Brandi. It can happen very fast There are 250lb humans that die of bee stings dh friend did not have his epi pen on golf course and was stung by a bee and died as he was allergic to bees so imagine what would happen in a 5lb dog if you do not react quick Last edited by dwerten; 05-15-2010 at 08:34 AM.

Or in the case of accumulated it is from antibiotics where someone takes an antibiotic for say 15 days then breaks out as dd was on antibiotic for 17 days when she broke out in hives so that might help in trying to figure out what she came in contact with within an hour of breaking out and MSG in food is known for causing hives as well in people as that happened to me when i ate chinese food once so i always make sure to check for msg in food now.
