this is actually the vaccine that Miss Ellie collapsed and went into shock over. Scary stuff. Certainly understand the breeders who say don't give it, but understand the vets that say do. So I think it's an individual decision. |

yes you should get bloodwork, fecal and urine annually and i think when seniors they need semi annual exams. I am not sure of what age they are considered seniors but I think LJ knows that answer |

She was unresponsive (wild eyed, wouldn't move) and her gums were grey. Terrible feeling. I think the people who do give the lepto vaccine would really be rethinking it if this happened. Not going to be the first in line to get it if I ever have another Yorkie. That's for sure! |

You should gather information from breeders, vets in your area, and veterinary immunologists/specialists dealing with canine vaccines and make your decision from there. |

That would scare the beegeebees out of me. I would never do another one and just make sure there was no exposure. I would not even be last in line! |
Not sure if there is an exact age that a pup is considered a senior. I am guessing about 10 for a yorkie. But...it probably also depends upon the health of the pup. At the age of 8 they are considered adults....and some are healthier than others. I have lost pups at the age of 12 and they were definitely showing their age when they passed. Right now I have a 15 year old foster that is healthy as a horse and actually prances when she is outside. She cracks me up! :) |

Thankful for emergency medicine! Now when Ellie does get vaccines (obv. never lepto) (just rabies now), we premed with Benadryl and wait at vet's for 1/2 hour. She just keeps checking her gums for us. Needless to say, I hate vaccine days! |

very scary c - hey did you ever find out if it is tied to mvd issues as i know you were trying to find info on that? |

Yeah...I am sure it is not 6 for yorkies. The large breed pups don't have the life span of the toy breeds so 6 is probably right for say a Great Dane. |
