| The Nails This isn't about cutting the nails, but about the shape and look of the nails, hence i decided to post here. Uni's kinda small, and her nails are nice and smooth, and taper to a point and dark almost black. Katie is a bit of a bigger girl, and her nails are not all dark, some lighter, the ends don't taper, and look quite honestly like macaroni. The first time my bf saw them he said, eww why are her nails so ugly? So, why are they? Does it have something to do with her former unhealthy diet? (Beneful) Why are they not all dark? Will they get better with a better diet?

| HAHAHAHA!!! I dunno maybe that's something I need to find out about him.... Just wondering though, since on people, signs of health can show up on hair and nails. Same for dogs?

| Doesn't this have something to do with the pigment in the skin and hair in the area of the feet? My white Chihuahua has almost all white (kinda ugly) toe nails. My dark hair dogs have black or dark nails. I do have a couple of chi's that have dark bodys but light feet and they have a lighter toe nail here and there.

| Macaroni... great description... Seems to me that bigger dogs have thicker, dog like nails, and smaller dogs have almost catlike nails, though not quite as sharp. The health of the nails is what's important. Color of nails is passed through genetics. Dryed out looking nails can be a result of poor diet, dried out foot pads can indicate diabetes (I think). I use a product for horse hooves on their toenails and pads called 'Hoof Saver' (good for peoples too!)

| Well we have good nails so I can't help there. I just wanted to point out that there is that pet nail polish if nothing else. Perhaps a shade of pink might make you, your BF, and maybe even the dog happier!
