Macaroni... great description... Seems to me that bigger dogs have thicker, dog like nails, and smaller dogs have almost catlike nails, though not quite as sharp.

The health of the nails is what's important. Color of nails is passed through genetics. Dryed out looking nails can be a result of poor diet, dried out foot pads can indicate diabetes (I think). I use a product for horse hooves on their toenails and pads called 'Hoof Saver' (good for peoples too!)
