How often to you bathe you pup?

I am wondering if it might be the corn in the food? It really needs to be a process of elimination when it comes to scratching. Shampoo, dry skin, food you will need to look at each and address all but I would think that the shampoo should be the easiest to change. If he is still scratching after a bath with a gentle dog shampoo then you can rule out the shampoo and move on to the food being the possible cause.

I would not use human shampoo and get a good puppy shampoo to use. I've been using Pet Silk and I really like it but as you can see everyone has a preference. I also just bought Tropiclean from a member here and it smell wonderful and is on sale of only $6 including shipping! She even has a soap free Oatmeal that might be something to try. I have all of mine a bath once a week and believe that it is pretty standard of most members on YT to bath anywhere from weekly to every other week. If I wait too much longer their hair looks just horrible.

I totally agree.. it might be allergies.. Samy used to scratch from Royal Canin and now that we are grain free he does not scratch.. but I noticed that he also scratched after the first time I bathed him so I switched the shampoo!

Bi-weekly or weekly (depending on the coat and skin type) is fine to bathe, at least this is what i do although vet says differently.

Silky I would think it would work on a cottony coat too. I haven't tried ACV but I may since we have a lot of mosquitos and fleas here in Texas. Cerise is on Sentinel once a month.

Wow.. I only bathe Magnus about once a month or so. I do wipe him down with those pet wipes in between and brush him regularly. As far as I know, his coat looks silky & shiny. The vet or anyone never said otherwise.

Also I use a conditoner (about the size of a dime or less in the palm of my hand) on her. I spread it ONLY on the ends of her hair, leave it on for about 60 seconds and rinse it off. It's a natural and organic product by Aubrey Organics - Island Naturals Replenishing Conditioner, that I buy from Whole Foods. It is for dry, frizzy hair and detangles. I do understand that it's a human product but it works fabulous and her hair is shiney, growing and flowing beautifully. After reading the ingredients I felt very comfortable with using it. I prefer products that are not harsh or full of chemicals. Most pet brands are that way and cause more harm than good IMO for sensitive skin and hair.

It's ok I guess, I used Mink Sheen and Pantene conditioner on Max, but Sophie is getting her "big girl hair" now and that transition is terrible, she gets these horrible mats right were the new hair meets the old
But I think she has a cottony coat, lots of hair, but fine, her head thou is very silky to the point that wont hold the top knot

i bathe my pup once every 7-10 days b/c her fur does start looking nappy. it really does make a difference b/c their hair is more similar to human hair than normal dog hair. i use cheapy puppy shampoo right now, i think when her adult coat comes in, i will switch but she doesn't seem to have any adverse effects to the puppy shampoo so i just keep using it.

LOL Cerise hair on top is so silky the bows slide out sometimes when she does the Yorkie shake.

I wash both of my dogs weekly with Italian Pet Spa Italian Buttermilk and Sugar shampoo. It smells AMAZING. I can't stop smelling them on bath day, and several people have come over on different occasions and can't stop smelling them either.

It's a moisturizing shampoo. If I notice that they have dry skin I hold off on the weekly bath and wipe them down with an unscented baby wipe and then spritz the moisturizing spray (made by the same company). They don't have any dry skin on this shampoo anymore. I think its important to get a good quality shampoo, it may seem expensive, but for how little you use it's not that much money very often. I have two dogs that I bath weekly and I have had the same bottle for six months and I am not even half way through it yet. You might want to get a moisturizing spritz or conditioner to use along with the shampoo, especially in the winter months when the skin can get really dry.

Brushing them often helps fend off dry skin as well because it distributes the oils in there coat.

Does the smell last for a few days? I love when he smells good for a while.

I googled and it seems Petco used to sell it (it got amazing reviews) but the item is no longer listed or sold.

I was told by my vet that Celine needed a non soap shampoo. She said even baby shampoo was too harsh. She recommended ( and this might just be the vendor they use) Virbac Allergroom. On the bottle it says Routine shampoo for normal or dry skin dogs, cats and horses (? ha! horses) It is all I have ever used and really it is wonderful!! Smells great on her! I bath her once a week.

My elder yorkie "little dog" could only use a dandruff shampoo. She lost most of her hair due to allergies.

My puppy "Zora" gets a bath about once a week. This week she has been bathed twice (three times if you count the pepsi she got into!).

Ohh some of those do seem like they'd smell really good! I'm a vanilla freak too and most have vanilla in them, lol! Thanks for the link.

I contacted the company and she told me the Italian Buttermilk and Sugar is temporarily discontinued but that they will have it back by the end of the year. Right around the time I'll need a new bottle. Yay
