| My yorkie has leaky eyes Hello All, I have a 6 year old yorkie with the Leaky Retina and Iris Epithy syndrome. The problem is hair growing inside of the eye socket and is semi' common to Yorkies. The best option I have found was the post I made a while back to order special nutrients from 'Pawhealer.com' to address the problem. Leaky retina problems in Yorkies can be addressed by a special blend of Oriental Nutrients that Pawhealer will mix and ship to you. I used them on my yorkie and they do help. There is nothing available to my knowledge to totally correct the issue outside of major surgery which I personally don't recommend as that may not even correct the issue. There is also a company online 'Dogs Naturally.com' that may have some information on the issue. |

| i give my yorkie bottle water in stead of tap water and it has helped with the runny eyes and i also keep the hair around his eyes trimmed. I also use a soft face cloth to clean his eyes with warm water. |

I have used their products for several years to heal a collapsed trachea and remove cataracts from another Yorkie I had prior to it's demise from living in smoking household the first nine years of it's life as my vet was treating it for allergies when it had congestive lung and heart problems that the vet nor myself didn't realize it had until it was too late. That was a hard lesson even though the dog lived to age 17, it could have lived a lot longer had I thought about the smoking atmosphere the dog came from. | |

How could a vet miss CHF? Wow. That's truly shocking. How tragic.

| I give Bentley Gerber's Nursery water and no other water. I clean his eyes with a face cloth every morning and comb the part of his eyes by his nose with a small toothed comb. I don't know if this will help but for Bentley he has less discharge.

| I also saw a veterinary ophthalmologist for Tootsy's eye weeping and black clumps. She said the weeping was due to a congenital defect in the breed causing ingrowing hairs and this causes the weeping. A fungus start to grow causing the discoloration and black clumps. She said that it is a breed problem and that surgery seldom works so she would not recommend it. She said to wipe Tootsy eyes each day with a sterile saline eye solution, which I get from Amazon, using cotton pads and making sure to use a clean pad for each wipe. Tootsy hated it. I had to use a flea comb to get rid of all the gunk. I phoned opthalmologist and told her how uncomfortable Tootsy was finding it and she told me to do it more frequently, if the gunk is building up during the day. She feels the discomfort was due to the gunk being 'pulled' off and so I must not allow it to accumulate. This is what I do now and have not found it necessary to use the flea comb anymore. She still doesn't like it, but it is over quickly now, as there is not much to remove. Talk about a high maintenance breed!! Oh, I did try using mineral water instead of tap water, but there was no improvement. |
