My yorkie has leaky eyes! Ive read this is normal with the breed, but he just looks bad and i feel bad when i have to get out the clumps in the morning and he just struggles! I use baby wipes currently to get his eyes cleaned out, but is there anything i could buy to stop his eyes from leaking in the first place?!?! |
My babies also have watery eyes. It seems the worst during teething. I would not use baby wipes on the eyes. Seems like the fragrances in the wipes might irritate the eye area more. I use a liquid called calm eyes. You put it on a cotton pad and wipe around the eye area. Seems to help. You can order it at www.calmcoat.com.;) |
There is product called Angel Eyes?? I have never used it so someone else will have to give you their feedback on the product.. sometimes the tear stain are alot more because of the food your puppy is on. Buying Pure bites Beef liver treats will also help, it is the #1 ingredient in the tear stain remover. I know how you feel :) and goodluck!! |
NO Products on the Market Aloha, That is a natural process to clear their Eyes, to my knowledge I have never seen a Product on the Market for that purpose? I do have 3 Yorkies, Artie my male tears-up alot......I have noticed that the males tend to have that problem more often than the Females, in fact Abigail has a problem w/dry Eyes, not tearing up enough.......their daughter Pom-Pom has "Normal" Eyes w/NO problems. I would'nt use any kind of wipes on/in their Eyes, unless they are specifically for Eyes? Due to the chemicals. I use a plain clean wash cloth w/warm water at least twice a day on him and I only clean out the girls Eyes once a day or as needed. They don't call them "High Maintenance" for nothing.:animal-pa |
Just to be on the safe side have you talked to your vet? Many yorkies have dry eye which will also cause this. There is a very easy test to find out. |

Keratoconjunctivitis Sicca (KCS) in Dogs i would not use angel eyes it has an antibiotic in i tylan powder and not safe to use antibiotics in my opinion for cosmetic purposes are you using spring bottled water as that helps in some cases as better than tap water i use Tear Stain Remover | The Safe and Effective solution for Cats and Dogs by Eye Envy It could be allergy related as well so is your dog rubbing or itching the eyes? |
Mr. Darcy gets clumpy things, too. I have Petkin Jumbo Eye Wipes I have a really squeamish tummy (I couldn't blow my kids noses, when they were small because of that warm feeling through the tissue!) so I can't just use my fingers as I have seen some people do. Is this product OK for eyes??? |

I use the baby wipes that are sensitive and unscented. Bascially they are just wipes with water. I have asked the vet and he said the baby wipes thing was an okay thing to do. I just hate the large, dried up clumps that get stuck in his hair! Ill look into those treats that you mentioned Lysiane! I'm just glad im not the only one! |

My Yorkie Has Leaky Eyes Hello, There is a Company in California, Pawhealer.com that compounds special formulas for dogs. I am treating my 6 year old Yorkie for the same Leaky Retina condition and the custom formula from Pawhealer is working very well. I have used their products for several years and have never had a problem with their products not helping my dogs to heal whatever issues they have had. |
I have the same issue with my male yorkie. His eyes are almost always tearing. Sometimes it looks like someone threw water on his face. I did ask the vet about the issue a few months ago during his initial visit. However, it seems like the issue has continued to get worse. I'm not looking for stain remover like everyone seems to be push. I would like to find a solution to fix the tearing issue. |
I have some baby wash cloths that I use on Sunni's eyes. I just use plain warm water and gently wipe them. She's so young still that it doesn't seem like a problem. I guess time will tell if it gets worse. |
I just now realize this is an old thread but serious dripping eyes is not normal, it's true that the inner corners of many yorkies eyes might get gunky but the eyes should not be weeping constantly. I have a face book friend that has a male with very wet eyes, I messaged her to see what his condition is, see her response below. "I don't really remember the medical name for it, but it is a congenital defect of his lower eyelids. Putting eye drops or stuff in the water doesn't help. We have tried everything and the Ophthalmologist wants us to wait till he's a year old and then it looks like we will do surgery to try to correct it and the weeping. " |
