should i keep doing this??? Allie is 9 months & has been eating royal canine puppy 33. Here lately she has become very picky. I have to admit it is my fault. I would put a couple of her treats smashed into her food so she wouldn't graze and be done.( still working on this potty thing) well I guess she is tired of this ,so after looking at all the different foods, I went yesterday and bought blue buffalo for puppies. I was so excited, mixed it all up with RC and she only ate a couple of pieces. So this morning the food was still there, I threw it out thinking maybe its lost it scent and gave her new food ....nothing ! so here it is 10:00 pm she hasn't eatin and its driving me crazy! I took out a small piece of chicken shredded it & mixed it with RC, she ate it all in under a minute . I was thinking of buying canned puppy food to mix with her kibble, or is it ok to keep giving her the chicken?? Sorry for the long story she is acting normal, playing, running around, & using the bathroom. Thx for any info!!

It is normal for dogs to eat very little for a day or two and then a few days later eat everything in the bowl. I think people make their dogs picky by doing just what you are doing, changing food, dding things to it etc. , Dogs will eat the same thing every day fr their entire lives. How big is she? if she is active and pooping and peeing, then I would not worry if she goes a day or two and doesn't eat much. she is probably not growing very much and doesn't require as much as she did when she was younger. I have 8 dogs, they all eat the same thing. Some days it is all gone by noon and other days there is food left over. I put out two different foods, some days they eat more of one and some days the other and some days all of both kinds. It is fine to give the chicken, but I wold do it seperately so she does not think it is a substitute for her dog food. Last edited by JeanieK; 04-06-2010 at 06:42 PM.

| I'm really not an expert, but I started mixing in Wellness canned puppy food with Rocco's Wellness puppy kibble about a week after I got him at 8 weeks old. He definitely eats his food better and I think a little bit of wet food is better for his skin and coat. I only put about a teaspoon into his kibble 2 out of the 3 times a day he is fed. He eats his kibble even without the wet food now, when he didn't before. I do think the most important thing is to NOT keep changing his food and adding things to it...he will eventually realize this is his food and if nothing 'better' comes along, he will make do. And the best part (sound gross), but his poop is consistently firm, compact and easy to clean up!

At her last check up she was 6.4 , I'm going to return the blue buffalo tom.& stick with the RC. I don't want her to have food issues ( lord knows I have enough myself LOL) Her poop is normal like everything else, except for me... ha-ha. I guess I need the reassurance that I'm doing the right thing...ahhh these little ones, how could you not luv them!

Stay with the Blue Buffalo. It is a very good food. Royal Canin is not so good. Six pound Yorkie needs total of 1/2 - 3/4 cup per day. Feed twice a day. Put down the proper amount and leave it 15 minutes. If he doesn't eat it in fifteen minutes, take it up and don't give anything until the next meal. Repeat. No healthy dog will starve himself to death. It usually only takes a day or two for him to get the idea. You are doing him no favors by indulging him. Many dogs have to be trained to eat what is good for them. It is well worth the effort. Good luck.
