| Puppy Insurance- Yes or No? I'm thinking about getting my baby puppy insurance and I was wondering how many of you have puppy insurance.... and if it's worth it or not? If so...which insurance companies are good to go with? What plan did you get? I know there are so many insurance companies and plans out there and I want to make sure I go with the right one. Thank you everyone!

| Hi - we don't have insurance. We have our Yorkie, Darwin (11 months) and our big 3/4 Great Pyrenees Zain, (20 months) and our 14 year old Bengal cat Sidney. I have heard good things and bad things about insurance. We decided to not go for insurance and we just know that the money we save on insurance will go toward vets if we need it. We have had many pets that have led very long lives and have been "lucky" enough to not have anything serious happen. We are also financially able to spend a reasonable amount of money if we ever do need it. Having three pets, one who is very large, it would cost too much money to pay on a regular basis. On the other hand I do know people who have had several things happen to their pets and the insurance has helped them a lot. I know this isn't very helpful but I thought you would like to know about as many people's experience as possible. Good luck! |

| I heard there are bank accounts that give you special interest to set money aside for medical emergencies and I believe it can be used for pets as well. You might want to just take the money you would be spending on insurance and put it into that account instead??? |

1) The deductible you select is for every incident - it is not an annual deductible like it is with many companies. 2) You will be charged a higher co-pay than what you selected for your plan if you take your pup to an after-hours emergency center, are referred to a specialist, and there are other cases where you're charged more....go to Petplan's website and click on the little "?" after the word co-pay (or deductible) and a more detailed explanation will appear. This information does not appear on their website anywhere else that I could find - you have to click on the little "?" symbol to read about it.

| I definitely think pet insurance is the way to go! I have it with Trupanion and I dont look back! I tried to do the whole setting aside money in a separate bank account and for me that was too difficult. I definitely recommend that if you are interested in getting pet insurance you should get it as soon as you can. Just because pet insurance companies do not cover pre-existing conditionss! Also, the younger the better! I know with Trupanion they dont increase your premium as your pet gets older so its best to lock it in at a younger price! Check them out! Do a free quote! Also I recommend taking a look at pet insurance reviews website! Very informative! |
