The post was about Baby Back Ribs that WE eat - and yes - that's dangerous. Most vets will tell you that - They can splinter - lodge in their throats - cause blockage - and a number of other problems - not worth the chance.

WE may want to give them good stuff but it doesn't mean we should - and of course a dog would LOVE it - but it's asking for trouble.

I don't control what people give their dogs - I was just giving my opinion. If someone's dog chokes on a bone it isn't my fault. Maybe if they choke on a piece of kibble, you can blame the manufacturer. Or how about if they jump off the couch, break their leg, you can blame the maker of the couch!!!

Wow. I'm not sure where to even start.

To clarify: I don't sell ANYTHING. But, I would never give cooked bones - I mean that's just common sense. I would much prefer 'spending a fortune' as you put it to keep my babies safe and healthy, than take the kind of risk you're suggesting. You're right though - your dogs, your risk. That doesn't mean it's ok to tell others to give their pups something that's known to be dangerous. Nor is it ok to be so rude.

I was going to let him just chew on the bone a minute. I got a treat to trade for the rib, but the rib was GONE. It was about the size of a lady's pointer finger. Do I need to get him to the vet in the morning, or can I wait to see if it passes? What do I look for?

My step-dad once gave Jackson a bone from pork (I think?) and he had diarrhea that night and the next morning and then he was fine. (He also doesn't have a sensitive stomach or anything) so I would just wait and see.

My husband thinks it is ok to hold onto a chicken bone and let the little dogs gnaw on the knuckle part. He never gives them the bone, but we are forever going back and forth over this. He also fights me about fat off meat. He always tries (and usually suceeds) in giving them bites of meat fat, "it's pure protein!" even though I tell him too much protein is not good for them. He has a lab and I have the yorkies. I never tell him what to give Homer (lab) so he gets, bones, fat, table food, whatever.

I know there is probably very little you can do about it, but fat isn't pure protein, it's fat! Even one small bite of fatty meat can trigger pancreatitis in a Yorkie and when that gets bad and IVs are required, $500-$1000 (or more) may be required to save Yorkie's life (and death is still possible).

yep and depending on your area and how severe your dog gets pancreatitis and if they need to do plasma transfusion to save your dog like mine as they can relapse very easily once they get it. I paid 10,000 over a year because my dog kept relapsing after one episode then had another and almost died and then they get bacteria infections sometimes from having this thus hospitalized a third time. It goes on and on - TRUST ME you want to avoid this at all cost as it is expensive and heartbreaking when you have to see your dog in a cage with iv's through the jugular and he is panting staring at you wondering what is going on and you have to leave him every day. I will NEVER get that memory burned out of my mind and now I have become so paranoid whenever he vomits.

Please be careful I am very lucky my dog lived through that and is alive today. He was a very sick little boy.

Fat is pure protein?? It's pure fat!!!

Have him say that in front of a bunch of body builders and see what they say!
