I say its 1 of 2 things...they are getting wayyy to much protein, so the poop smells good to them or they are not being fed enough food....JMO.

Rylie is on a good, high quality, grain free, low protein food. My vet agreed with my research and assured me that it is a phase she may grow out of (and I've read the same thing on YT). According to her, it is a common behavior in all dog breeds and it occurs most often when they are puppies. She also said there is nothing I can do for her health/diet wise to change the behavior. YT's pineapple suggestion has worked to a great degree though, but like I said the behavior isn't completely eliminated.

| Ya, I don't think it's a nutritional deficiancy (although it can be) for most dogs. My Beagle is the worst and she is a little overweight, so there's no way she needs more food and she's on Verus plus gets a "senior dog" wholefood suppliment, so she's definatly not missing anything. She is a piggy though, this is a dog that would literaly eat herself to death if she had the opportunity (I'm totally serious) so I honestly think she considers it a snack And with Alice, this dog will try to eat anything that's in the back yard plus I think she saw Darla doing it. I'm gonna try the pinneapple plus with the weather breaking, I'll be cleaning the yard everyday. Funny, but gross, story - The vet clinic I worked for did boarding too and we would walk the boarders one at a time 3x a day. We had a regular client that went on business trips alot and boarded his Jack Russel. This dog would turn around and eat his own poo like the second after he was done going. We would always walk each dog with a bag and clean it up immediatly, but this dog had like a poop eating reflex or something, he'd have it gone before you'd even bend over to pick it up. One of the craziest, grossest things I ever saw LOL

| I'm on my first week of trying pineapple. It's slowing her down while she's eating it lol. You can tell she thinks it taste weird. And one day while I was gone she went on her pad and only half. Which is a big improvement for her. She's two years old and three pounds. She's on canine caviar for two months so the food change hasn't helped. Does anyone know a good amount of pineapple to give? I gave her two chunks of dole chunked pineapple today. |

| My puppy is 10 weeks old and she has on occasion ate her poop. I have been reading other post and some suggested giving pineapple after their meals. I am going to try this. I have also read that not giving them a good dog food could also be why. I am giving Bella, Purina ProPlan puppy food. She also gets treats when as part of our house training. I do not give her any table scraps. Any new advice for me Last edited by CathySc; 11-24-2013 at 05:19 PM. |

| Mine only likes frozen poo, so I always pick it up right away. In the warmer months I don 't have to worry about it. Lolol |

| Puppy eating his poop too! My 19 week old puppy is also eating his poop. I am feeding him Royal Canin puppy food for yorkshire terriers. Love him to death but I really don't like poop smelling licks to the face. I will try pineapple and see if that helps. Does it matter whether it is fresh or canned? |

Just 19 weeks old. Awwwww.... Anna Burke, who wrote an article for AKC, "Can Dogs Eat Pineapple?" says "Ripe, raw pineapple" is good for dogs. Burke goes on to write, "Canned pineapple, on the other hand, should be avoided. The syrup in canned fruits contains too much sugar for most dogs' digestive tracts." In another recent YorkieTalk thread, "Feeding Schedule Help!," Wylie's Mom suggested a product "Solid Gold SEP (Stop Eating Poop)." I've heard others recommend that product. Enjoy your little one! Hope this helps. Last edited by KatysMom; 05-22-2018 at 03:45 PM.
