| I just want to say some times it's not just mimicking behavior and some times it's not diet, some times it's become a habit from boredom....yeah I said it boredom. In Bijou's case she had to be crated at just 9 1/2 weeks of age for a month due to a broken leg. We could only get her out to hold her, let her go potty and eat. That's when she started eating her pooh. I wrote at thread about our vet visit. Some times the stuff we put on the pooh or give them so they don't eat it can upset their intestines and give them runny and/or bloody pooh. Bijou was on an antibiotic because she ended up with too much good bacteria in her intestines and is on a special high fiber diet from the vet now. It's worked for her, a long with very diligent scooping of the pooh as soon as we see one of them go. I've attached a link to the thread. I hope this helps: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/sic...oh-eaters.html When in doubt I always say seek help from your vet. As it may be something for to her over all health that your vet can test her for. Please, keep in touch and let us know how she's doing.

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Have you tried Solid Gold S.E.P. yet? That works very well for some (it worked for Wylie immed. back when we were feeding kibble when he was younger and was poop-eating). It doesn't work for everyone...but worked incredibly for us .

| Eeewwww Just noticed my Yorkie eating her Poop this morning. I never heard of a dog eating it own waste til now. I thought something was wrong with her when I noticed what she was trying to do this am. I immediately stopped her and took it away. I'd like to try giving her pineapple but was wondering if its ok to give it to her while shes pregnant? How much do you have to give? Would I continue feeding it to her after shes stopped? Whats in the pineapple that makes them stop? Looking forward to hearing replies and more experience with this issue. Thanks |

| I hate to be the first to say this, but the pineapple did not work for Reesie. He just kept right on snacking down. *GAG* Anyway, I have been really trying to break this habbit, which I really believe that it is a habbit that Reesie has gotten into. Everytime I catch him trying to eat it I say "NO" in a loud voice. He knows it's wrong to eat his poop, so now he tries to hide while he poops and then eats it quick! AAAARRRRRGGGGG!

| Poop eaters anoyamos! I glad to hear we are not alone!!! Our Yorkie did it also, we where told the food or treats she was getting still smelled good so she ate it again. She is now 3,5 years and seems to have out grown it. Spec's Dad |

| If it's any consolation, my little Buzz was a poop eater, when I got him at 4 months old...He did it for about 2 months, but thank goodness, he seems to have stopped the last few weeks...He's almost 7 months old, now, so maybe your pup will outgrow it...Btw, I was feeding raw in the exact amounts that were recommended for his age and weight, and I started giving him a little more, than recommended, and I think that helped...Maybe he was still hungry? |

| Oooo, I'm so happy I saw this thread My Beagle is TERRIBLE about doing this, it's the first thing she does when I put her outside but I've always used the "Distaste" powder on her and the Akita's food which stops the habbit for a while, but I have to use it for about 2 days every few months because she'll start up again. Now, she's eating Alice's poo and I saw Alice eating her own the other day in the yard. Well, miss picky Alice won't touch her food with the powder on there PINEAPPLE!! Really? YAY! I'm getting some from the grocery store tomorrow

I tell my dogs all the time that they are disgusting creatures (like when they're eating bully sticks or "checking out" each others butts) and i swear my cat will look at me and and blink like, yes they are. LOL

| Check out this thread for tips on poop eating: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/yor...-his-poop.html This thread really helped me and Rylie! We started giving her pineapple and she's pretty much stopped her yicky behavior. Although, she's taken to being a "poop mover" lately. She doesn't actually eat it (most days). I'm going to try another suggestion from the above thread and see if it stops it completely! |
