| HELP -Vet Gave Wrong Medication! I bought a year's worth of Revolution from the vet in November for my new puppy. He was 9 lbs. at the time, so I asked for the dosage for 11-20 lbs, he's 14 lbs. now. I just gave him his 3rd dose today, and noticed when I was putting it away that although the prescription label from the vet with his name on it says 11-20 lbs, the actual Revolution packaging says 20-40 lbs. THE VET GAVE ME THE WRONG DOSAGE! Needless to say I'm furious & worried about my dog. I already called & will be exchanging the remaining doses. But, does anyone know if giving the dosage for a larger dog is harmful for him? Help! |

| Can it be washed off before all of it can be absorbed?

| Thanks for this advice. I called the manufacturer & vet. Vet said "if you want to come in we can switch the meds for you" and took no responsibility for the error. I was planning on switching vets to someone closer, and now I'm definitely doing it. Making an appt. for Winston to be checked out next week. This was a scary eye opener about how careful I have to be & not just trust the vets. |

I finally paid for med was so furious and then said i am done with vets going to dermatologist and derm said i was right glad I did not give med. I then called vet and returned med and went to a new vet. I no longer trusted her. When i called mfg about dose she wanted to give they also said you are correct we would have never said that as your dog is less than 10lb and the doseage for her is 10mg and 25mg is for 9-16lb dog. I felt like she got the wrong doseage so she rather than return it just figured give my dog the higher dose - she has since sold practice to another vet and i switched vets at the time this happened I have seen so much of this kind of stuff you can ask 3 vets about same drug and get 3 different doseages - my girl has staph and it is almost cleared up and vet said 1.2 ml twice daily and dermatologist said 1.2 once daily of clindamyacin - of course i went with dermatologist as it was more conservative and she knows more about skin and the staph is almost gone so you really have to do your homework, read everything, and then go with what you think is best I have found Last edited by dwerten; 01-31-2010 at 05:40 AM. | |

| here is another scary story my girl hurt her leg so I went to a vet with a digital xray to get on cd and he came in with metacam well my dog is on steroids now as atopica made her vomit too much but she is on temarilp which is prednisolone not prednisone so easier on liver. Nsaids should not be mixed with steroids as it can cause ulcers in dogs in the intestinal lining. I told him NO METACAM we argued as i wanted tramadol as tramadol can be mixed with steroids but nsaids cannot and i knew this. We argued i gave in as he is the PROFESSIONAL RIGHT well then he gave it to her and it dawned on me wait she has not eaten for 8 hrs is this safe on empty stomach (NO) but he said it is ok she will be fine well you are not suppose to give on empty stomach either. My dog was so sick from one dose for months - she got colitis would vomit up her food whole so i had to soak her food for 30 days before she could keep it down as dry kibble and i had to end up taking her to internal medicine to figure out what the heck was going on - it was a nightmare and we had to worry about her getting an ulcer on top of it. Metacam is not horrible but it is never to be given on empty stomach nor with dogs on steroids he should have known better it is all over the internet - i knew better but i trusted the vet. |
