sorry, i guess i have failed trying to be funny again. (i pretty much do that on a daily basis...)

Yes, I would be very frustrated if I still fed dog food. It seems like there is something wrong with every brand. At the same time, homecooking is really just not for everyone. I certainly wish I didn't have to do it at times. But we do what we have to do I guess... While I do agree that there are no guarantees with cooking because even human food is questionable, I still personally think the ingredients are quite a bit better than dog food.

About organic foods though, I'm not so sure they are any safer. While water is a chemical, we need it to live. Arsenic is natural (organic)... That really doesn't mean it is a good thing... I believe some chickens are given arsenic for weight gain or something. So they were fed something natural, but that doesn't mean it's okay...

I feel your pain. Just when I think I have found "quality" food, I find it on some "list".
I would LOVE to be able to home cook. It is just not for me right now.

I have cooked for pups that needed special diets. I have never started for all of mine and really admire people who do it. It is a lot of work!

nah, i am not that funny, but if you get to know me, then you will learn to tolerate(?)/get used to(?) my unfunny jokes.

...if i try to expound on a joke that wasn't funny in the first place, then it might be disastrous. i think i have reached my maximum allowed un-funniness for the day.

I really can't see. It seems that it has been done in the past though. It's just that organic doesn't always mean healthy...

I looked at the chicken formula on that site. The fat content is 26%. That may be fine, but it is just something I personally wouldn't be comfortable with.

i know that you need to make sure you give them a balanced nutrition when home cooking. but besides that, are there drawbacks to feeding them home cooked foods?

one thing i have heard is that it's worse for their teeth if you don't brush their teeth everyday when you feed home cooked meals.

Generally anything 18% and under is considered lower fat. Then there is moderate fat which 26% may fall under. Nutritionists and vets may tell you that it is perfectly fine, and that is very possible. It is JMO that maybe a lower fat food could be better. The major concern to me is pancreatitis.

Homecooking, INO, is quite expensive (but maybe about what raw costs...not sure). I's hard to travel with, you need extra freezer space, etc.

There is an endless debate about wet food being worse for teeth than kibble. I will say the source I trust on this says it's a myth. At the same time, I have read where people have fed wet food and had an issue with teeth. Sooooo, I guess it's all in how you look at it... Ellie ate mostly kibble for her first five years and had horrible teeth. Now on homecooked they get brushed and they are much better. I say whatever they eat, brush them and use OraVet.
