| To chip or not to chip Ruger is going to get neutered in about a month. Some people are telling me to have him "chipped" while he's under, and some are saying it's not worth it. Any thoughts on this? Any downside to chiping a dog? |

| Chip There are dozens of heart breaking reasons TO do it, and not a single reason, that I can think of not to!! A chipped animal, is FAR more likely to be returned, if they ever go missing...no matter how tight you hold them, anything can happen...

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Both my boys are chipped, and both wear properly-fitted collars w/ ID tags 24 hours a day. I will always get chips for my pets unless there is more conclusive evidence to the contrary...and right now, there just isn't for me. But to each their own, I say !

| Gizmo got chipped when he was neutered last week. The needle is big and I wouldn't want to do it unless they were asleep. Nikki is getting chipped when she gets spayed on the 29th. I just do not want to take any chances with my babies, they mean to much to me!!!!!!!!!!!

Donating YT 500 Club Member | If there were a way to get it done with out them feeling any pain, I would prefer a tattoo over microchips or ID tags. I suppose if you could get a vet that tattoos, it could be done when they are spayed/neutered but I wouldn't ever have them anesthetized just for tattooing. At one time there was study suggesting problems with microchips. But then another study proved the problem findings were unfounded. I would say go ahead and chip as it is probably currently the best way to identify a lost dog. Hopefully whomever would find your dog, would have them scanned.

| I do not see any reason to not have them chipped... especially if they are under while it happens. Both of my cats were chipped and did not flinch. While I'm sure it hurts for a second, it is worth getting my babies back

It is inexpensive for peace of mind, and to register it is also inexpensive. I paid $17.50 in 2007 and that's for the life of the pet. I don't know how much the actual chip is though, b/c Uni's breeder had all the pups chipped already, possibly same day as tail docking.

| 100% Chip! The best time to do it is when they are under... that way they wont feel it. I have never heard one single reason to not chip.... its worth it for sure! |

All my dogs are chipped. When I had them, my cat and birds were chipped. I even know of koi (ornamental Japanese fish) that have been chipped. I think the needle scares the owner more than it does the dog | |
