| Ready to pull my hair out! Where do I start. Well Molly for the first yr. was feed Wellness Puppy and did very well and then we went to the mix 5 . And that worked for awhile. She ate very little at all and was around 4 lbs. every time I took her to the vets. When she started to not eat the vet said mix her kibble with yogurt so that worked for a bit and she got tired of that. Then the only way she would eat was out of a little ball she tossed around on the floor but I knew she wasn't even getting 1/4 of a cup a day... Due to my health we sleep a lot so her being overly active has never really been a problem. I started bringing home samples to try from my pets store I go to .Which I might mention is great..Little plug here for those in the area! Zoey's Eatz&Treats on Kingery Hwy in Willowbrook IL. She would eat something for maybe a few days mixed with her Wellness then nothing. So then I tried The Honest Kitchen and she licked the bowl clean but threw up just about everyday. So I backed off or that and tried Stella and Chewy's... That worked for about a week. Now I know I tired way too many new thing in too short of a time and feel bad cause I'll really messed her up. Her poor tummy!!!! Trying to help make things better I decide that was it nothing but kibble from now on So I went with CORE the beef one. I made brown rice and sweet potato and mixed it with the kibble and she gobbles up the rice and potato and the kibble is spit out on the floor .. Once in a great while she will go back and eat the kibble but not often enough. So this is what I'm thinking.. And I could use any help all of you could give me.. I figured it would be better for Molly if I just cook for her .. Even though I HATE to cook but I want a healthy happy furperson! I have gone through and read most of the recipes and they don't look that hard and I think she would love them. I need to know what supplements to give her. I would like to give her something you don't add to her food cause once she trys it and doesn't like it then she wouldn't eat it anymore. PLEASE help me out here ... I'm going to be BALD soon!!!!! | My Daisy who is a 6 year old jackrussll/poodle was on boiled skinless chicken breast with brown rice and carrots and green beans for 2 years bc Daisy was a puppy mill dog and couldn't eat any dog food. I never really gave her supplements. I always gave her vegetables as a snack and let her chew on white bones that you by that have the cheese in them. After she was 2 I slowly added dog food to her chicken and eventually I would just slither the chicken on top of her food. Daisy now is strictly on wellness dog food and is doing fine. She ocassionaly gets a treat of chicken but I give her vegetables whenever she wants. She also loves salad! lol I hope this helped~Joyce

| From what I understand, if more than 10% of their diet is home cooked you really need to include supplements. There are several threads about homecooking in the health/diet forum if you just look through it or do a search. Good luck!

| I can't offer any advise, but wanted give encouragement. You sound like a great mom trying to do the best for her Yorkie. Maybe a dog nutritionist can be of help? I'm sure other members here can make recommendations.

| I just wanted to add I agree with everyone else and it's absolutely imperative that you supplement. Any DIY diet (homecooked or raw) can be extremely harmful if not balanced properly. Hopefully some of the YT homecookers will be along to help you out soon!

| Molly ate today! I made Molly a batch of ground beef and brown rice with carrots and celery and canola oil today and before I even put any of the rest away her bowl was licked clean! So I guess its home cooking for me...*LOL* Now I just have to work out the supplement part.. Thanks for all the replies Diana and Molly |

| Alternatively you can make life a lot easier on yourself and also not worry if you are correctly feeding her a good diet or not. Pick a kibble any high quality kibble will do. Put it down at set times during the day and pick it up after 15 minutes if she doesn't eat. This does two things. One, it establishes that you make the rules of the house and two it reinforces to her that food is a valuable resource and the sole reason why dogs sought out humans to be their protector and provider. The end result will be a well behaved dog without the fussiness. The biggest obstacle to this method is usually the owner. They have to remember who is in charge. |
