| Bailey has a fish/tuna smell on her rear end?? why? ok so a few weeks ago we were at the in laws and Bailey smelled fine when we got there but towards the end of the night she start smelling like tuna, we figured she must of rolled in something and it made her smelly. Tonight I was just playing with her and her rear end smells funky again like tuna? Why is this? she is on a strict diet as she has IBS. She only eats Hill's Z/D Ultra allergen - Free. and the only treats she can have so far that don't give her bad stool is sweet potato and then i buy some of her food in cans and cut it up in squares and bake it. So what is causing this bad smell. Other fact is she does not go outside to roll around in anything as well. she is pee pad trained and we have snow in the back yard so nothing smells like fish. hmm what other info am I missing. Oh she is not fixed yet and she is 10 months old but is getting spayed next month after christmas. could it be that she is in heat and has a bad ordor?? Please give me ideas. It only happen twice now in two weeks but I am very curious why she randomly smells. I also wash it away and it seems to be ok but still curious. I will call the vet to see his opinion tomorrow. thanks for your input anybody?

| its probably her anal glands. It is a horrible smell, but it does happen. You groomer or vet should be able to take care of it.

| The anal glads should be expressed regularly! I have mine done once a month at the groomer. You can do it yourself. It's gross, and stinky. But it'll save you a lot of money and stress on your dogs part. My Yorkies get done by the groomer. But I have 4 other dogs that do not need the groomer so I do it myself! Make sure you do it outside or in the bath/shower where you can wash it down! How to Express a Dog's Anal Gland: How to Groom a Dog | eHow.com

| We bathe our boy rather than getting him to the groomer. However, we cannot cut his nails without a great deal of hassle. Everytime we take him to get his nails clipped, we have his gland squeezed. They do it for free with the clip. I would make sure to do that everytime you see your groomer, or even make a special appointment if you do not want to do it yourself...I for one do not know how, nor would I want to with the queezy stomach I have! |

| Yeah I guess I never go to a groomer since I cut her nails and do a full groom on Bailey myself and all my past dogs never had this problem so we had never got the anal gland express I guess... I didn't even know it was a necessity. thanks for all teh help

| if it is the anal glands the smell will not go away so I would go to the vet or groomer sooner then later to get the expressed.

| That was my first thought, too. Anal glands have a very foul odor, much different than a fishy smell. At ten months it is very possibly her first heat. Definitely check with your vet, though. |
