| It is NOT necessary to express anal glands in yorkies UNLESS there is a problem with the glands. I agree with Nancy that you can cause more problems like rupturing the gland which would require surgery and cause pain in the dog. I also would opt for my veterinarian to take care of it if there was a problem over a groomer any day (sorry but I personally haven't met one I trust to clip their nails let alone touch their glands or organs). Two of my yorkies are 9 years old and have never had their anal glands expressed.
