| Are your babies overweight? I am just wondering about weight. My vet says everything is ok but according to the weight charts my little baby is FAT. He was only 2.25 oz when he was born he is now 15 weeks old and weighs 4 lbs 9 oz, according to the weight chart he should only weigh 19 oz which is 1 lb 3 oz. Rebel has stage 0.50 or I guess 1 of LP, you would never know it so I do get a little concerned about his weight. Did any of your babies gain this much weight?

| The weight charts are just averages, not a bible to go by. I doubt your little guy is fat, he is a puppy and growing, he will probably be around 8-12 lbs as an adult maybe more. Just more Yorkie to love on I would listen to your vet if he says he is ok at that weight

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | The weight charts are just an estimate, and remember puppies can't get fat; they are growing how they are genetically programmed to grow. A more accurate estimate is tripling the 8-week weight or doubling the 12 week weight, but you are still getting just an estimate. Do not limit food because you think puppy is growing to big, they are making bones and permanent teeth and their health can suffer if you limit their food. How do you know the puppy weighed 2.5 ounces at birth, were you the breeder? After a dog is about 8 months old, you can see if they are at the proper weight for their build, and at this time you can adjust their food and exercise routine.

Miracle (the mommy) was rehomed into our home a week before she had her babies. Rebel (our little pudgy baby) weighed 2.25 oz when he was born his sister (who we lost at 6 weeks) weighed 3.50 oz. The handler's who gave Miracle to me said she was a "toy" (yes, I know) and that she only weighed 5 lbs, she is now weighs almost 8 lbs, I don't think they were really taking care of her that well. They also told me that Sir Wiley- Rebels daddy only weighed 3 lbs, I have since found out from the vet they used to take the yorkies they had too he weighed more than Miracle. I don't know exactly what he weighed I believe they said over 8lbs. They also told me that Rebel would probably only weight 3 to 4 lbs full grown. I have not nor did was I going to cut back on his food just wondering if I am doing the right thing and he is not gaining to much weight. When I say "fat" I mean it jokingly, he is adorable and I love him to death. He looks like this little furball walking around and now that he has his sweater on all the fur sticks out the back and it looks like he has a fat bottom. It is very, very cute! I do trust my vet, he is the best ever but wanted to get other's thoughts.

| Puppies can grow out of LP. You need to make sure he never learns to jump on or off things- start now by teaching him to use stairs to get on the couch/bed.

the folks I got Miracle from, were actually the handler's. Not the breeders. From what they tell me Miracle go out of the bathroom, yes that is where they kept her, and that is how she became pregnant. This was this little girls 5th litter and she just turned 4!!!!! sorry, I said "toy" but meant "teacup" and that is exactly what they played it off as being, I on the other hand did not care, I just wanted a yorkie. They actually had five that they were trying to "get rid of" (as they put it) or they were going to be put down. I don't think they were "abused" in the sense of being hurt, just not given the proper care of love, care and attention. Miracle seems and is so very happy with us. I also, think there was money issues, they knew she had allergies but would not get her allergy tested because it cost to much money. I am taking her next week for environmental and then the following month for food. And no worries, you were not rough I should have explained that I was not going to limit food was just curious because they are small I don't want to cause them any health problems. I have a daschaund that is overweight and my vet told me he needs to lose about 2 lbs, so I have a habit of giving them TOO much food.

WOW! I did not realize that. I thought he would have it forever, and I would have to REALLY watch him. That is great to know. We don't really let him on any of the furniture because I am afraid he will jump, if we do we make sure to put him on and off. I do the same thing with my other furbabies when it comes to the bed but they are stubborn when it comes to furniture. We are going to go and get a set of stairs. Thank you for your advice.
