The weight charts are just an estimate, and remember puppies can't get fat; they are growing how they are genetically programmed to grow. A more accurate estimate is tripling the 8-week weight or doubling the 12 week weight, but you are still getting just an estimate. Do not limit food because you think puppy is growing to big, they are making bones and permanent teeth and their health can suffer if you limit their food. How do you know the puppy weighed 2.5 ounces at birth, were you the breeder? After a dog is about 8 months old, you can see if they are at the proper weight for their build, and at this time you can adjust their food and exercise routine.
