| My Baby LOVES Raw! Questions?? I tried our new baby (18 weeks) on the NV Raw medallions last night - and OMG - she LOVES them!! I can't even believe how she enthusiastic she was/is about eating!! My Jack Russell looked at me as if to say "huh? You want me to eat what?" But not Zoe! So my question is - how much do I feed her? The bag lists 4 medallions/day for a 10 lb. dog. Zoe is only 2.8 lbs. I gave her one medallion last night and one this morning - but it just doesn't seem like a lot of food! I did leave down a bowl of kibble in case she gets hungry during the day - but I don't think she's much interested in that now that she's had the "good stuff". My other question is about teeth. I know I have been told not to feed canned food to Yorkies because they need the kibble for their teeth. The NV raw is obviously very soft. How does this affect their teeth? I am planning on getting her raw chicken necks for her to chew - will that be enough? Thanks for any help!! Brand new to this "raw" feeding thing and want to make sure I do the best I can! |

| Aren't the raw medallions great? My babies LOOOOOOVE them. Click on this link, and NV has a feeding guide based on your baby's age, weight, activity level, and other foods you're feeding. Good luck! Feeding Guide | Nature's Variety

| Thank you so much, Bon Bon! Yes, they ARE great. I really wanted to go raw - but don't necessarily have the time to prepare it myself - so this option works SO well for me. The fact that Zoe already LOVES (huge understatement) them is a big bonus! Now I just have to get my little JRT to love them, too! I did hear sometimes it can take a little while...so we'll see. In the meantime, I just began switching him over to Orijen, which is seems to really like a lot.... Do you give them other things, also, like the raw chicken necks, fruits and/or veggies? |

| You're welcome. I just realized I missed seeing your question about teeth. I've learned from some very knowledgeable YT'rs that canned food isn't necessarily bad for the teeth - it's more the quality of the food that's important (just like with humans). Even though the NV medallions are soft, they are excellent quality food and have small peices of ground raw bone that help to scrape the teeth. But raw bones will be excellent for them, too. I also give bully sticks to my babies to chew on to help with their teeth. ETA: Yes, I also give mine an occasional raw bone but mostly bully sticks. Their treats are frozen green beans, baby carrots and cheerios.

Kibble doesn't "clean" teeth any more than eating cereal would clean our teeth. The enzymes in raw can help digest some of the gunk off of teeth, so that's one benefit of raw. Chewing is good for their teeth - ie, bully sticks, CET chews, antlerz, raw bones etcetera. You can also use Petzlife Gel, ProDen Plaque Off Powder, or brush their teeth.

| We LOVE NV raw... my dogs have been on it for 5 yrs now.. I have a jack russell too and he is 7 yrs old and never had his teeth cleaned. The vet said they are still good. Also, his poop does not smell and is very small so easy pick!! his breath is fresh too! I know it seems like its not much food but i was told that since NV is so nutritionally dense, that u do not need to feed alot of it.... Unlike kibble, there is a lot fillers so u need to feed more of it. My JR is 15 pounds and i give him 4 nuggets a day and he seems to do fine. I know the bag says to feed more but when i was feeding him 5 a day, he gained weight. He seems to be satisfied with 4 nuggets. Since my JR sheds so much, I also add salmon oil and it has helped alot! It does take some time for some dogs to get like it tho.... my roomates dog hated it in the beginning but now he LOVES it!!!! Because u are dealing with raw meat, i would recommend that u use a stainless steel bowl and wash with warm water and soap after each meal. You will see a big difference in your dogs!!! keep us posted! |

| Have a question about what to feed my puppy Have a quick question, I have a 10 week old yorkie and my brother began feeding him Iams. His poop started coming out all runny like. I want to switch his food to something that will keep him healthy. Most of the healthy foods I checked out said he has to be an adult dog. Do you have any suggestions? |

Also, a 10 wk old pup w/ runny poo can be in a life threatening situation. Puppies are prone to coccidia, worms, giardia etc - he really should take him to the vet bc pups can die from diarrhea as they become too dehydrated...

| Thanks Wylie's Mom. I did use the calculator on their site (VERY helpful) and have been giving her 1 1/2 medallions in the morning and 1 1/2 at night. At first, because she ate it so fast, it just didn't seem like "enough". Now I realize it is. Last night I tried to give her a little baby carrot piece, as my other dog LOVES them! Nope - wanted nothing to do with them. Apples, however, are another story - she loves them! Can't wait to see if she likes green beans! |

| I read on YT to sprinkle a little parmesan cheese on the medallions. Maybe that will help your JRT "eat up". Bonnie loves the nv too. She just cries when I am fixing her meals. |
