| This is all good info. Thanks everyone! I've been doing some reading on rabies shots and I'm wondering when is it safe to get their rabies shots? My vet said at 16 wks. Does that seem right? It seems the longer you wait, the better. Is that right? There seems like there is a lot of controversy on the issue of rabies shots. |

| Rabies is a tricky one. I am waiting until Zoe is 6 months to get her rabies shot...she's just so tiny and the darn vaccine amount is the same for a 2.8 pound puppy as it is for a 120 lb. dog!! I figure the longer I can wait the better. Also, be careful, some states don't allow you to order rabies vaccines yourself (in NH we can - but in MA they can not) and some places will not accept you giving your dog rabies yourself since there isn't a "certificate" which can prove it was given. I would hate to see your dog have to get the rabies vac. TWICE because of that. |

| I would not do it even though I have six dogs as I feel it is very important that a vet see my dogs. If you are not experience and you are doing this to save a few bucks (and it will only be a few bucks) it is not worth it to not have a vet see your little ones. Also your friend better be very educated on what shots to give (some shots will kill a Yorkie) and keep complete records or she could get in trouble...again not worth it to me unless I was breeding and I still think I would have the vet do it so I have a vet looking at my puppies.

| The rabies shots I waited for the pups to be 6 months old. When I talked to my vet she said 6-9 months... And since they did fine with all their vaccinations we gave it at 6 months. Bella is a little over 3 pounds and Anakin is at about 2 1/2- 2 3/4. Even though I vaccinate my pups they go to the vet just the same. Just cause you do your own shots doesn't mean the pups are not seen by the vet regularly. I would rather go in for a check up and do shots at home then countine to take them to the vet over and over just for a shot. Plus my vet allows we to take copies of the shot record and leave it with the to show proof incase someone needs it. In my situation it isn't to save a few bucks... It is because in my situation I can do the same thing here. (plus with puppies I don't want to expose them to all the things at the vets office.) We use to vaccinate our horses also. It really is personal prefrence... If you feel uncomfortable and want to go to the vet that is fine too.
