| ![]() Just in case everyone is browsing through the OP and not realizing this, Not all the foods listed do contain ethozyquin! ![]() Really appreciate the extensive research done in this... I do look for ethoxyquin free foods but I don't always go far enough to ask what they do use instead. This has been a huge issue in the pet industry, although I think its been something thats gone fairly un-noticed in the cat/dog sector. its been a huge debate for years in fish circles (try finding a fish food without it - I've yet to find one!) as well as the small animal circuit. The big issue that develops with this (from any manufacturer, like we saw with the huge recall) is that a food is only as good as it's supplies. A lot of fish meal is imported - and it may have additives that neither the supplies or the manufacturer are aware of. Ethozyquin has been shown to potentially cause some issues, especially with things like cancer. I wouldn't say its the cause for a lot of the cancer issues we do see... but it can definitely be related. (Its like anything... we have lots of studies that seem to say soy ingested daily helps reduce the risk of cancer, and lots of studies that seem to say eating soy regularly increases the risk.) If you feed a food that does not contain fish meal you're most likely safe, and even if you do the amount of ethozyquin present is most likely very minimal. The question just becomes if its worth the risk, and if that risk is worth taking. |

| ![]() Thanks for the reminder again....I've tried to be clear that not every name on the list uses ethoxyquin. I put the words in bold letters if they indicated that they do use the ingredient. The reason I included the ones that do not use it is so people can see which companies responded to they survey and are safe to use....I hope people aren't assuming all on the list use it......

Therapy Dog Donating Member | ![]() Holy cow..I'm stunned. ![]() I also fed Cosmo Taste of the Wild Pacific Stream (this food was rated so high on Dogaware.com, etc.) so thankfully I only went through one bag with him and then we totally switched to the Nature's Variety Prairie and NV medallions. Thanks for posting...even though it's a small amount..well think about it..over time it's in your Yorkie's system and it accumulates. ![]()

Thanks for the info. Unfortunately mine are fed Canidae which is on the list for using it (they do use fish meal). I guess I will be switching their food again. I appreciate the list, it gives me a few options to switch to that don't contain ethozyquin.

My Tiny Treasures Donating Member | ![]() Life's Abundance contains no chemicals such as BHA or BHT or ethoxyquin, which many pet professionals consider harmful to pets. These chemicals are used in pet foods to allow food to have a long shelf life. Many foods are stored in warehouses or tractor trailer trucks for up to 18 months before they arrive at stores for purchase. Life's Abundance does not mass produce their food. It is always shipped fresh to your door! You can trust Life's Abundance Pet food to have your pet's health & well-being in mind with every batch they make! Not only will your pet feel better, but so will you knowing that you are providing a quality food for your pet. Look at the link in my signature. Great, safe food! |

My little Shadow Donating YT Member | ![]() Another informative post about what we feed our babies....Thanks! In another recent post, there was bad news about Wellness: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/yor...-9-3-09-a.html In the past, I fed the Wellness Fish/Swt Potato. There were threads posted about small fish bones in the kibble & I discontinued to buy it, but Bella never seemed thrilled about that variety anyway. But this is All so scary & troublesome!! ![]()

YT 3000 Club Member | ![]() I was noticing that solid gold does have this in their food, this does not make me very happy. The earlier post said that from diamond food their foods manufactured with fish meal, ocean fish meal and salmon meal does contain ethoxyquin, I will swithing in a hot minute if this is the case, this makes me very angry towards solid gold. |
