| Wellness Old Mother Hubbard Pet Food law suit announced (9/3/09) http://www.truthaboutpetfood.com/art...ced/Page1.html "The law firm of Call, Jensen & Ferrell announce they represent the Plaintiffs in a class action law suit against Old Mother Hubbard Pet Foods and Petco Animal Supplies. From the complaint: “Defendants have been knowingly and systematically defrauding hundreds of thousands of California consumers by marketing their dry pet food products by falsely representing that the products: (1) contain no animal by-products; (2) are “human grade”; (3) “are the same quality you would feed to your own family.” These claims are manifestly false and misleading.” “In reality, Defendants’ product contain “chicken meal” and other animal meal – which consists of law quality poultry meat, poultry skin, bones, -- and may include feathers, internal organs, and other viscera. Chicken meal is never suitable for human consumption. Thus, the purchasers of these products have paid a significant premium believing that they are feeding their pets the same quality food that they would feed their family, when in reality they are receiving rendering plant by-products that could never be fed to humans.”"

| It also appears they are going to "go after" many favorite companies on this board. Lots of them used "better meat meals" in their ingredients. Also I found this on our own board... http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/yor...aste-wild.html LetsTalkPetFoods.org - View topic - Update on irradiated Orijen in Australia I am so upset...WHAT DO WE FEED OUR FURBABIES? I just got some OMH treats too!

| What a shame. Jackson ate Wellness for about a month and a half and got TERRIBLE gross wet eye boogers every day that he never had before eating Wellness. Once I got him off the food, after a few days, they stopped. I wasn't sure if it was the food or not but maybe it was.

| I was just going to start getting Orijen for Sophie. I was reading this and from what I can tell, the problem was the levels of irradation used in Australia. I know food that comes into the U.S. is also irradated to a degree (even the food WE eat that comes imported, but from this article, it may not be to a higher degree. It also states that they are thinking that it could also be a species sensitivity in this case that only applies to felines. From all the people on here who use Orijen, I would think that it still may be ok here. Here's the article VIN News Anyway, I didn't realize wellness was being sued. I was going to feed her wellness but have decided against it. The thing is, most all commercially made pet foods are going to have SOMETHING in them that could potentially harm our babies. Unless you are able to feed raw or homecooked meals, you are going to be succeptible to this. And you never know about raw or home cooked meals, too. I mean you know what YOU are putting in them, but how do you know you might not get tainted veggies or meat, too? The bottom line is that whatever we feed our furbabies, we have to be careful and read everything on the label and know what we are feeding. Personally, I'm probably still going to go with Orijen or Merricks for Sophie, but I just haven't decided. |

and pet and we're just going to have to go with our gut, research and know that we are making the right decision. Bottom line, I feel better feeding a higher quality food over Pedigree, Purina, etc, but there was also thousands upon thousands of dogs who thrived on those Kibbles n Bits type foods for years and were as healthy as can be. So, it's such a sticky situation. Either way, I like the ingredients in the food I am feeding and I feel comfortable with it and there's not much more I can do but sit back and hope I made the right healthy decision for my dog.

| OMG, my babies were on Wellness for the past year or so, before I switched them to Merrick's two weeks ago, just to give them some variety. Although I do cook for them too. Any recalls or problems with Merrick's that I'm not aware of????

| Ok, so in a sense . . .the amount of money I pay for Wellness because I thought it was a great product and my dogs absolutely happen to love it . . .I'm actually throwing money away and should just be purchasing any dog food since basically it seems they are all crap?? Did anyone actually join this petition?

| I'm so disappointed to hear this. My pup likes Wellness and seems to be pretty healthy. I feed him a combination of dry and wet mixed together and I have to say the wet doesn't smell bad at all. Of course, I wouldn't eat it even if it WAS human grade... Not sure if I'm going to change right now....don't really want to go back to Eukanuba. |
