				   | Is anyone familiar with Revolution flea and heart worm control. It is an oil you put on the back once a month. I was using Advantage-multi but our new Vet uses Revolution. I am going to Google it, but if anyone has any experience with this medication please share. The info sheet they gave me says its a medication not a pesticide. I find that hard to believe since it kills bugs! Not sure if I want to use it. Any thoughts on this would be greatly appreciated.

				   | I love it. It also kills mites. I'm using it on my Liver Shunt dog and she does great with it!

				   | Continued: Also because it's a liquid, the dose can be measured out to match your pets weight exactly, while with other htw meds smaller Yorkies end up getting 2-10 times the amount they normally need. And you only have to use this one product because it handles ticks, fleas, and mites too. It is a parasiticide, as are all Heartworm medications/products, but getting hwtwm disease would be worse. Also, you can bathe your dog after 2 hours of application. And as a topical, it does it's job before it goes through the liver, not after as with oral meds.

				   | I haven't used it but I have heard that it doesn't protect againist heartworms as well as the heartworm pills. My roommate is doing her clinicals in vet school and the vets there will not recommend Revolution. I have no idea if this is true or not, but just thought I would pass it along. I would like to use it because I hate drenching my 2 lb baby with enough flea and tick meds for a 22lb dog, but my vet, and other vets around my area, do not recommend it, or even sell it... |

				   | All the local vets here recommend Revolution over the other brands so I don't know what evidence there is to it not protecting well. It protects for heartworms and works for Gucci and it worked for my bullies but we switched to just plain Ivermec solution ( I WOULDN'T USE THE IVERMEC ON A YORKIE so please do not do that) I have used it faitfully for a while and never had a problem. Vets like medical doctors are influenced by the pharamacudical companies that push the newer higher priced drugs. My vet has told me that Revolution is "less effective" than some of the other heartworm meds.... however..... I asked for numbers to back up the "less effectiveness" and the difference was so minimal that I chose to continue using Revolution. Remember, Vets aren't pharmacists, just as they are not nutritionists. They rely heavily upon recommendations of the manufacturers of the drugs who have a huge financial stake in the meds that vets recommend. | |

				   | Ok great, thanks for all your thoughts on this. I just put the revolution on her this morning (while the little darling was fast asleep). What is strange about my Vets office is they have all these Advantage signs and promo displays and when you go there you get this nice Advantage welcome travel bag full of goodies and a sample of Advantage, but then when you ask for it they get all weird and say oh Revolution is better and we don't have the Advantage....What??? Bit strange I thought.

I don't look at the studies done by the drug company themselves, but I look more so at what is going on out of the lab. There seem to be far too many reports of it being ineffectvie against heartworms and I would not trust it personally.

				   | I absolutely love Revolution for my Lola. She had ear mites really bad one time and we gave her antibiotics and the vet gave us Revolution to keep mites away afterwards. We skipped a month because I completely forgot about it. We moved recently, she got fleas terrible, I mean hundreds of them...took her back to the vet, got another dose of Revolution. Bathed her really well with regular puppy shampoo(got alot of the fleas out) and after she as dry I applied the revolution. Less than 3 days later, she is completely free of those nasty fleas. I definitely recommend Revolution. She does so well on it, and I've heard nothing but complaints about Frontline.
