| To Neuter or Not?? Hi all. I'm new here and need advice. Our 15 month old 17 pound male Silky has always had an aggressive personality around people he doesn't know. But yesterday he was excitedly playing in the yard with the neighbor's terrier as they often do, when he followed the other dog into the neighbor's house and lightly bit a child and a woman. Never happened before! Would neutering him tend to reduce his aggressiveness toward strangers? Thanks. |

| I agree that he needs some training to address his agressivenexx.W e waited until our little man was almost 3 to neuter him and he was always a mams boy, but he seems to have become so loveable since. I dunno if it is coincidence or not. |

| Welcome to YT It sounds like your silky got himself all over-excited from playing with your neighbours terrier and that excitement spilled over when he saw the lady and child. I agree that some training classes might be a good idea....if this is the first time he has been aggressive it would be a good idea to 'nip it in the bud' (if you pardon the pun!), before it escalates. I can't advise whether or not having him neutered will help aggression issues as I had mine neutered at 6 months......but I know a lot of people say that it does help. Good luck with him xxx

Thor's Human Donating Member | I take it you are not planning to breed him, since you are considering neutering him. I would say as a rule, you should always spay/neuter your pets. It makes life easier for both of you.

| I tend to believe that an animal who is not intended for breeding should be neutered or spayed. As for if neutering your Silky will deter him from future aggressive behavior...I doubt that is the solution however, it may alleviate some of his fuel that is propelling him into acting out. Ensuring him a secured area & proper training with strangers is key! Also, welcome to YT...

| I have 4 yorkies. 3 Males and 1 female. One of my males does the same thing. He's has a completely different attitude than the rest. The female is his mom and the other male is his dad...another male that i have is his brother from another litter so they are all family but his attitude is completely different from theirs. I had all 3 males neutered and the female spayed...thinking that might be the problem but its been a couple months since the neutering and it hasn't helped. When a stranger first comes in, if they don't mess with him and let him come to them at his convenience, then after a few minutes he will be fine but if they just go right for him and try to pet him, he gets mad and trys to bite. Good luck
