| i'm not sure about just throwing the dogs raw meat, there are other nutrients that the dog will be missing if you are simply feeding raw meat. they need some other nutrients and supplements as well. they should get their kibble as well as the raw meat if you aren't going to use a recipe, because without the recipe or something with more nutrients, the raw diet is rather unhealthy. the veggies, rice, eggs, and bone meal supplement for the lack of other nutrition in kibble, but simply throwing a raw chicken leg down isn't enough for yorkie's overall diet. hope that made sense, willing to help or explain the recipe i have if needed, it's really much easier than it looks and you store it in the freezer so that you only make it like once every other month, little to NO work for you, costs less than purchasing raw from the store and it's all your own food, home made and home grade, you know exactly what you put into it!! i love it! |

rebeccag you are on the right track. one meaty bone at a time. next week you can try something else. Also you need to start adding in organ meat. If you buy a whole chicken, all that gross stuff comes with it and some can be fed (maybe all, i'm not totally sure). There is a a great thread here about prey model and raw. let me go find it. Oh, Tripe is really good for them too but it smells AWFUL.

| One last question, did anybody's dog get sick when switching to raw food? I think I'm going to start today, I'm a little nervous. I'm going to watch him very closely after dinner. I'm going to try pieces of raw chicken breast. Is it really important to give them the bone?

They're still on kibble...we're almost completely switched over to Wellness. I would never just throw them a chicken leg and be done with it...LOL! They eat kibble and I'm introducing them to the raw. Not to mention, they see the bunnies eating raw carrots and apples etc etc...so they get that occasionally too....Jonah's def. not lacking any nutrients...if he gets any more people are going to think he's a rhino...LOL!

Yea he hates the finger brush, thanks. I was thinking about giving him some bonless chicken breast, maybe I'll buy some with bones. I'm crossing my fingers that it works, I'm really nervous (hence all the questions). Thanks everyone for your help.
