| Black Skin Rash One of my yorkies, Maddi, has a rash on her skin. It looks like black dots, but recently one of the dots is about the side of a large pea. Does anyone have any idea what this is? It does not seem to bother her, but when I pet her I can feel the raised black bumps. Thanks.

| There's a condition called Folliculitis that can look kind of like that-- little raised dark bumps, usually on the back of the dog. It is most common in schnauzers but it can be seen in other types of dogs too. It is basically an infection of the skin follicles, and vets will often treat it with special medicated shampoos. That would be my guess as to what it might be, but you should have a vet take a look in real life to get a definitive answer and treatment.

| Thanks for the quick answer. At least I will have something to go on when I talk to the vet. Thanks again.

| Annabella had something like that. It came on just like that. She seemed to just wake up with it. She had a few tiny black spots and one almost the size of a dime. It looked like a mole or what I think melanoma would look like. The vet was booked so I put neosporin on them for a couple of days and then one day the big one came off like a scab and the skin underneath was just like the rest of the skin on her tummy. The little ones just disappeared. It was weird. We had been camping and I thought something might have bitten her but they did not bother her at all. |

| Vasculitis can also be black and raised. Though, this is not a very common health issue. I always recommend a Vet Dermatologist, when your regular vet cannot figure out what is going pretty quickly.

| Just wanted to add that Wylie's Mom posted this wonderful site from a Vet Dermatologist group that shows pictures of various types of skin issues. Just go to the FAQ area and it will display pictures of different types of problems. Maybe this can help. Dermatology Clinic for Animals

| I am going to try this before I go to the vet. I already own one of the rooms at my vets, so maybe this will work. She has had it for quite a while so another week won't make a big difference. Thanks.

| Skin Rash Hi - My little Sammy (female) is 8 and she got those black bump rashes. I took her to the Vet she had no bugs or disease - just allergic reaction. I gave her predisone for a 4 days and antibiotic and they went away. Now, they are back again but not as severe and not black - just raised bumps that itch. I am going to have her allergy tested. |
