Liver Shunt My vet told me the surgery for liver shunt was usually not effective. Rather than put my 2 year old through this surgery, he was put down before he began to suffer horribly. I would like to know how your Yorkies did after their surgery? Did it restore them to health? I sickens me to think I could have saved my baby.

Extrahepatic shunts (the ones that are outside the liver and most common in Yorkies) are surgically corrected regularly. University of Tennessee has about an 85% success rate I think and less than a 5% mortality rate.

Dr. Karen Tobias, did the surgery on my baby. She was just a few months over two years old. She is doing great now. The shunts that are not repairable can be treated with meds and supplements, they sometimes live long happy..Go to Livershunt.net There are lots of success stories on there. Some vets just don't know how to treat shunts.

The reason I have asked this question is because Stephen at Livershunt.net does stories on the liver babies, it helps other Moms and Dads to realize that a liver shunt is not a death sentence. Would you, or anyone else that has a liver furbaby like to be a success story for Livershunt.net? If so I can get you the e-mail address to Stephen. Everyone needs to read the stories on Livershunt.net, they are very helpful. Thanks for reading this, Sandy and Chance

I read Quinn's story on Livershunt.net. He is very lucky to find you. I think he knew right from the start he was home, he just had to show you. I hope you have great success with the puppy that is getting the shunt repaired. Let me know when the surgery is, so I can pray for you guys. Sandy and Chance
