Liver shunt????? Do any of you have a furbaby that has, or had a liver shunt repaired? |
Yep, both of my boys had shunts. |
Liver Shunt My vet told me the surgery for liver shunt was usually not effective. Rather than put my 2 year old through this surgery, he was put down before he began to suffer horribly. I would like to know how your Yorkies did after their surgery? Did it restore them to health? I sickens me to think I could have saved my baby. |

Extrahepatic shunts (the ones that are outside the liver and most common in Yorkies) are surgically corrected regularly. University of Tennessee has about an 85% success rate I think and less than a 5% mortality rate. |
Dr. Karen Tobias, did the surgery on my baby. She was just a few months over two years old. She is doing great now. The shunts that are not repairable can be treated with meds and supplements, they sometimes live long happy..Go to Livershunt.net There are lots of success stories on there. Some vets just don't know how to treat shunts. |
