| Which flea preventative do you prefer? Hey guys, I was wondering which brand of flea, heart worm and tick preventative was best? I have been using Advantage Multi and it seems to work for the most part, though I have found 1 or 2 random fleas on my little Marley. The reason I am asking is because instead of paying for a vet visit and purchasing it from the vet every month, 1800petmeds has a sale on it, plus an extra $20.00 off your purchase. Please let me know which one I should go with soon! Thanks |

| I use heartgard plus (I thought I got regular but apparently it is plus) and Advantage. I go on hikes and swimming and camping with my dog but it is all on flat dirt. I don't use advantage plus. There's a new thing called Comfortis, it is an oral flea medication. You might want to check it out.

| I use heartguard and frontline. I am in the search for something other then frontline now though, I wasn't to thrilled to find lots of fleas on Coco today and she is still about a week under the monthly time frame since getting her last dose.

| Here's some info on Comfortis: Comfortis.com - Home I would have ordered it but I had just bought 8 months of Advantage. Oh well, when that runs out I'm switching to Comfortis.

| If your baby has lots of fleas I got from the vet the pill called capstar (I think) and it worked to kill the fleas right away that were on the babies it only lasts for 24hrs and it is $5.00 a pill but it gets rid of them immediately...then I put them on frontline,, the vet said only give them capstar to immediately kill any that are on them when I had the house sprayed..

YT 1000 Club Member | I asked my vet about capstar last year and she wasn't selling it. It sounded like she doesn't push it. I think it might still be kind of new and she's not the type to sell something to her patients unless she knows it's safe. We use Advantage. Before that I was putting Adantyx on her and it wasn't lasting so after talking to the company and the vet I switched and the Advantage is working much much better. Sometimes you might still see a flea or 2 but the stuff on the dog sterlizes them and they can't reproduce. Plus the ones you do see probably aren't moving very fast. It might not stop them from jumping on but it does stop them from biting and laying eggs. Try to treat every animal in your house on the same days.
