| How to treat my yorkies dry skin When we first got Lucky in March his skin was fine he was on Iams puppy food. We swittched his food after his doctor told us that his dry skin could be from the Iams. Hes now eating Royal Canin. His dry skin is starting to really bother him and the vet said to wait it out. He keeps going up against the walls because his skin is soo itchy. Ive checked for fleas and he has none. I rarely bathe him. I do take him to get groomed. I have no idea what else to do. I dont want want hurting himself just to relieve the itch. |

| That's what I was thinking too. Perhaps the shampoo they are using? You could also try supplementing with some salmon oil. |

Yorkie Yakker | Dry coat Poor baby, find out what products the groomers use when bathing him. Jada is also on Royal Canin and loves it.Have you tried and oatmeal shampoo? I hear they help. Quote:

If it were me, I'd probably get him off the RC food bc it has corn in it, which dogs can be allergic too - if they are allergic to corn, they will itch a lot on RC. The Vet Dermatologist I see says that when dogs are having skin issues, they should be bathed weekly to help decrease irritation and contact w/ allergens, using a shampoo geared toward their issue. Where is he itching exactly?

| Lucky had dry skin even before we got him grommed and even before the royal canin. the dry skin is around the hind legs.the groomers know about his dry skin and use a gental shampoo. he doesnt go that often either he's went about 2 times. ive read on the royal canin food and i did hear about the corn issue which was years ago when they put corn in the food. |

If it is a seasonal allergy, I'd still change the food - bc once a dog has 1 allergy, his immune system is more vulnerable to all types of allergies - so a domino effect can occur. Prevention of exposure to more common allergens can help.
