My Tiny Treasures Donating Member | Rawhide is not digestible. I wouldn't recommend using it. I use Porkhide Bones that are 100% digestible and SAFE for my babies. (and great for their teeth!) Here is a link Porkhide Bones - The Safe Alternative to Rawhide bone treats They are really inexpensive too! |

| Sam does bully sticks. I had wondered what the difference was between raw, beef, and pork hide.

| rawhide sticks are made out of the leathery skin of a animal, They are not digestible, and can become entangled in your pups intestional track. Causing serious problems. Bully sticks are a natural tendon of a cow or whatever animal it is. As are pigs ears. I cannot give Baxter any of those as the dye they put on it or the smoke makes him sick. So he is stuck with a hymalian dog chew, which he absolutely LOVES!!!

| I give mine bullysticks. They love it. I order them from someone on here called AMD. You can find them on the yorkie products for sell. They don't smell either

| I've heard from several people that rawhide isn't recommended, especially for small dogs. I've also heard that bully sticks are dehydrated cow penis...? Not sure. Rico loves Nylabones (can be found at Petsmart). They're made from a plastic-y material. He goes crazy over them. However, for my lil 12lb Yorkie, I have to buy the big bones for heavy chewers. He goes through them pretty easily. But they're long enough to grip, which he loves. I also get real bones (not sure from what animal) that are filled with marrow-y material from Publix (our local supermarket). The bones are clean and don't stain. Even after he's done with the filling, he still loves to bite on the bones for months after!

YT Addict | Rawhide bones turn my Emmett into a monster. Seriously. When he has one he only focuses on it and gets angry if anyone tries to take it away.

| Hide is the skin of an animal, especially the thick tough skin or pelt of a large animal, so I would not give any type of hide. (rawhide, porkhide, beefhide etc). There are many other chews available that are much safer and just as delicious!! Last edited by AMD; 05-11-2009 at 02:33 PM. |

| Bully sticks are, indeed, bull penises. And apparently quite delicious, if Penny's opinion is any indicator. I let her have bully sticks often, and she also gets small beefhide dental chews sometimes. I think it is most important to know your own dog and their chewing style. Penny works on the beefhide chews for hours-- she's more of a licker/slow and deliberate chewer. I never give her the hide chews unless I am able to watch her chew it, and I'm sure that whatever individual pieces she swallows are quite tiny. She's also BIG for a yorkie (13lber!). I might be less secure giving the hide treats to a smaller dog, and I would never, ever give hide chews to a dog that tends to gulp down big pieces of things, since that is when an obstruction would be most likely to happen.

| We do not give Snickers any type of rawhide bones or chews. We use Moo! Brand Odor Free Bully Sticks which I can find locally and also we give him Sweet Potato chews which are all natural and 100% digestible. The bully sticks are 100% digestible as well. We also leave out small sterilized hard bones, which are nice, white, and super clean. Snickers chews on the bones alot and can barely even scratch it. We also have a few platic nylabones, but after the real bones, bully sticks, and sweet potato chews came, he barely touches those. He still does love his Petstages Orka bone though. He has so many things, he can pick and choose. So Spolied. Ps...I took me SO long to get over that Bully Sticks are Bully Wieneys!! GROSS!!!! I just don't think about it and see how happy Snickers is!!

Yorkie Talker | Just a few minutes ago I gave my 7 month old Toby a Dingo rawhide chew bone and now I see from all the posts here that is a NO NO. He is really going thru a chewing stage. Don't really know what else to give him to chew on.
