| Petzlife/Dental/etc? Question - I really need to get started now on taking better care of Jackson's teeth. They are fine and healthy currently as he is only 6 months old but the only preventative care I've been giving his teeth are chew sticks such as bully sticks, some dental stix, etc. I'd like to get started on something better however, I don't myself (or see Jackson tolerating, as good as he is, no mouth touching! lol) brushing daily. Anyone recommend the Petzlife spray and how often do you spray? Thanks for the input!

| The spray is okay, but definitely not a replacement for daily tooth care. What works for me is using a piece of gauze wrapped around my index finger and using it to "brush" their teeth. Sissy tolerates it, Angel hates it, but we do it daily anyway!!!!!

| Neither of mine will tolerate the brush, with or without flavored tooth paste, so I tried the finger stall with the little rubber bristles and they do tolerate this. They're not crazy about it but at least I get to do something for their teeth protection. |

| I spray both of mine 1x a day (2 sprays for each one). On the bottle, it says for maintinence, just spray them 1x every 3 days. I like the spray and would definitely recommend it. My don't necessarily LOVE it.... but they will allow me to use it, so its a keeper in my book!

| Just be sure to check the ingredients for sweeteners such as Xylitol which is not good for dogs. You can do a search for related threads/posts.

| If they're currently healthy with no plaque build-up, you don't need to use it every day. I used Petzlife daily until I was able to brush away all the plaque and tartar build-up, but now for maintainence, I just use it and brush once a week, plus I give dental chews and bully sticks. Petzlife is safe and effective, I'd definintely recommend it! Hope that helps! |

| I use the spray and it is wonderful. But I do brush as often as I remeber. Which isn't often. BAD MOMMY, I know. Yorkies have horrible teeth problems so at minimum I would do the spray. It even makes their breath tollerable. Petsmart sells it the cheapest. |

| Hi, I've used both the Petzlife spray and gel. I like both but I prefer the C.E.T brand of toothpaste first. I bought it at the vet's office and in my opinion it works better. Plus, my babies don't seem to mind it as much. I buy the poultry flavor.

The Petzlife is a bit expensive, but it lasts forever. Especially if you're just using it for maintanence. Last edited by AMD; 05-01-2009 at 12:49 PM. | |

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | I use the spray about three times a week, as well; I do brush his teeth with a dog safe toothpaste, but I don't think I do a very good job, the finger tip brushes give you more control, but it' still hard. The Petzlife is said to soften tartar, and you can brush it away later. I also think it helps when he chews on the bully sticks, because it reminds me of a dental scraping, and he holds the sticks every which way in his mouth, so I think he does a pretty good job cleaning off the softened tartar. I think you are smart to start thinking of this at his age. We've used it since he was about 8 months, and at 2 1/2 years his teeth still look great.

| YUCK ... bully sticks SMELL!!!! And my boys like to be sitting on me when they eat those darn things. Antlers are wonderful and last FOREVER!!! A little expensive but when you think about how long they last and the awesome minerals the pups are getting. It's worth it. My mom says I spend more money on my dogs than myself. And it's true! |
