| Indy is home and currently leashed to my leg! Help!! I am supposed to be keeping him quiet for 2 WEEKS after his liver shunt surgery!! I brought him home last night. They called me from the vet's early yesterday morning and said he couldn't come home til he ate. He had refused to eat since he was there. When I got there he was so excited to see me! We went in a room and I gave him his food and he ate it right down. He just wanted his Mom. So they let me take him home. He was so glad to see the other dogs, but wants desperately to play with them! I can't let him loose around them. He is oblivious to the fact that he just had major surgery. I think I have my son's old playpen (21yrs old!) in the basement and I am going to try and keep him in that. He pretty much leaves the incision alone when he's out of the crate, but when he's in it and doesn't have anything else to do he bothers it. I have an ecollar for him but his crate is too small for him to wear it in there. Hopefully the play pen will do the trick. Any suggestions would be helpful. It's going to be a LONG 2 WEEKS, but I wouldn't have it any other way!! |

| I used my old playpen after I had Finnigen nuetered. We left his ecoller off during the day, he wore a baby onesie, but at night I didn't want to risk it, so we put the ecoller on at night and let him sleep in the playpen. We put his basket and toys in with a couple of warm blankets and he was fine. Of course that was only a nueter not liver surgery. I hope you little guy feels better and recovers quickly. Best of luck Shar-Lee & Finnigen

| So glad Indiana is home! I don't have any suggestions other than what you've offered. Sounds the best to me. Glad he's feeling well!

| Shar-Lee, thanks for the onsie suggestion while I'm at work!!! What a great idea, I wouldn't have thought of that. I got the playpen all cleaned up and put his "stuffs" in it and he really seems happy. He can see the other dogs, but can't get into trouble and it's big enough for him to move around with the ecollar on. Thanks!! |

| No problem... however I can't take credit for the idea, I got it off of YT. This site is great, it doesn't matter day or night I can always find answers to my questions, and it's saved me tons of money that I would have spent taking unnecessary trips to the vet. Having my first furbaby, my yorkie, is like having my first skin kid (which I have 3 of), I'm paranoid with every little thing that doesn't seem normal. My Finnigen had an upset tummy a couple weeks ago, I think he ate something he shouldn't have outside at the park, and ended up having a couple of accidents in his kennel and on the floor, poop and vomit, I freaked and immediately turned to YT, fasted him for 24 hours and then gave him plain rice for a day, and then mixed rice and his natural balance, he was fine. Where would we be without YT and all these wise members. Shar-Lee & Finnigen

| Glad to hear your baby's doing good! Lacy had surgery on a hernia almost a year ago and it was hell for her and me. I just couldn't stand seeing her like that. I had her in a onesie during the day, but at night I would put her ecollar on. I set up a playpen in my bedroom right next to the bed and barely slept for 2 wks. She was so happy when her stitches came out and I was too. Hang in there everything will be fine!! Good luck!! |

| So glad Indy is home! When Simon had his surgery last December I had him in a onesie too. It is so hard to keep them calm, they want so much to play. I spent many nights sleeping with him on the floor b/c I felt so bad. The playpen is an excellent idea! I will be sending get well wishes your way. Please keep us updated! |

| So glad to hear Indy came through the surgery well! What a scary thing for you! Your playpen idea sounds great...as long as he's not a climber...but...it would probably be pretty hard climbing with an ecollar on! Wishing him a quick recovery! It's so hard to figure ways to keep them quiet when all they want to do is burn off energy! Good luck and best wishes! |
