My babies go nuts for green beans, they love them I either buy the frozen ones and steam them, or get organic canned green beans with no salt added.

Default ? about the green beans

I am wanting to use the green beans to help my girl lose a little weight, not sure how to go about it though. Do i give her some in place of her original food and if so how much do i give her. I don't want her to end up with diareha.
Are green beans filling makeing her not want to eat more of her kibble?
I also have sweet potatoe & baby carrots to give her, just to give her a variety of things. Just not sure how much is to much, or is it a guessing game to find the right amount, i know every dog is different.
Thanks in advance for any help.

My girls absolutely love green beans! Have never seen them eat anything else as fast! They eat canned cut green beans. No salt added is best.

They are also crazy about carrots. I buy the fresh baby carrots and they like them raw.

Both of my dogs LOVE frozen green beans! Quinn, our lab, goes crazy for her frozen beans and will do any trick for them. Charlotte grabs hers and high tails it for the other end of the room so Quinn doesn't steal it. lol We use them as treats. If one of us goes to the freezer for something we have 2 dogs sitting at our feet waiting for a snackie. Quinn gets mixed veggies with her dinner every night. Charlotte is much pickier so I do peas one night, carrots another....she likes to spit out the kibble and only eat the veg.

It may have been me Nancy. I remember reading that a fresh green
bean has a wax on it and must be cooked for about 3-4mins before
feeding to your pet. I did post that info on YT a couple of times.
I thought it was important.
I also use the frozen and cook for 3mins in the micro wave.

They also eat breakfast and dinner, and I didn't want to make them porkies by overfeeding them, so I figured some green beans mixed in at lunch would help them to feel full without all the calories. They are also very active during the day at daycare.

My bullmastiff was (obviously) a big boy and the vets recommend just what you were suggesting that you feed some green beans in place of kibble. It is important that the beans are unsalted. With him, we used the beans at meal time but also for when he was acting hungry so he could eat something low calorie to fill him up. I wish I could tell you to substitute x amount of kibble for green beans, but obviously his feeding schedule was much different than our yorkies. He actually only ate 2 cups of dry food per day, all 135 lbs of him. A cup in the morning, mixed with 1/4 can of wet and 1/4 can of green beans and the same thing for dinner.

You may want to ask your vet what he/she recommends.

Ours love green beans too! I buy fresh organic and steam them in the micro, then chop and add them to their meals. Haven't tried the canned or the frozen. I did try to puree some vegetables once for them and used cauliflower, brocolli, brussel sprouts and some others veggies, but they wouldn't eat it, so it was back to chopped vegetables. When they just want to play and I know they have had all their meals , we will give them a raw one to crunch on. They love them raw, but there is little nutritional benefit to them in that state, so they must be cooked.

Sounds like your little one is very spoiled and lucky indeed!

Roxy has been eating green beans daily for the last year or so, she gets the frozen ones- steamed and then cut up in her food. The only other veggies I have had success with are carrots- cooked and raw, brocoli and collard greens. I tried the collards for a while to help with calcium supplementation. She only gets them occasionally now- too much trouble to cook fresh greens regularly. Any suggestions for other veggies?

I have a 5 month, 3 1/2lb Yorkie that decided she didn’t like her kibble anymore. Tried online food sent to me which was cooked with nutrients added. Tried lamb, beef, chicken. Will not eat. I cooked rice, Turkey and spinach for her. Not much luck.
Bought fresh green beans and cooked them. Added to rice, chicken. Cut everything small. Ate some chicken and green beans. Here’s hoping it’s enough to satisfy her. I know she gets hungry but won’t eat. Teething and chews on bully sticks for short intervals.
This is a lot of work and worry.
