| Should I chnage vets? Allie was born 9-19-08 and is curretnly 6 months weighing 3 lbs. The breeder gave me her vacciantion information and she was current on everything. She had her rabies, DHLPP (2 sets), and Bordatella. she had vaccinations in November 08 and then again in February 09. I got her in the middle of March and took her to the vet immediately after getting her from the breeder to double check her health. First the vet stated he did not feel she was really 6 months because she did not have her adult canines and by 5 months she should have. Then he stated that vaccination chart the breeder gave me might not be right because the first 2 shots in NOV were given by a doctor and the last 2 shots in FEB were given by a vet techinician (which probably was the breeder bc she works at a vets office), and he felt there may be a discrepiency in her vacciantions. So he said we should get her up to date and that day she was given a DA2PCl and a BBB. I was told I then needed to bring her back in month to have the followup shots of the same ones. At the time I just wanted her to be healthy and make sure she was up to date on everything but after talking to the breeder and thinking about it I feel screwed! I hate that poor little Allie had to go through getting 2 shots when she didn't need them until Nov 09. I also told the breeder that he felt she as younger then 6 months because of her teeth. Of course the breeder was upset (which I do not blame her), and assured me of her age and that some yorkies do not get there adult teeth until later. So I don't know what to do. I was thinking of making an appointment at the end of April and talking to the vet about my last visit. I am definitely not giving her the shots. I would like to have her spayed when she is 8 months and also have any teeth removed at that time so she does not have to go under twice. its weird because this vets office is large and my mother took her dog there to get her vaccinations and spaying done and had no trouble. HELP!

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Uh, what did the vet mean "discrepancy"? Did he explain that? I'd very, very upset if my dog was overvaccinated. And was lepto and corona given too? If so, why? What is BBB? This is the vax schedule most of us here follow (Dodd's), so you can compare here: Vaccination Schedule Recommendations For Dogs

| i agree with the previous poster, my bree is 7 months old and just started losing her baby teeth. and some of the places where her baby teeth are coming out, i cannot see the adult ones yet. at 6 months old, she still had ALL her baby teeth - i think your breeder is right on this point (JMO). not sure about the vac. discrepancy but that does concern me

By Discrepancy he meant that because a vet techinican signed off ont he last 2 vaccinations she recieved he thought she might not have really had them? The DA2PCl was for Dist Adeno Para Parvo Cor Lep and the BBB is Bord/Bronch Bacterin. The DHLPP which she was given twice by the breeders vet office is the same as the DA2PCL she recieved last month at my vets office. And yes i am very upset.

| I just want to see if I'm understanding this right. Can you give the exact dates of the shots given? So two sets were given in Nov. when she was less than 12 weeks old and then nothing until Feb.? Which ones were given in Feb? What dates? Corona and lepto are very controversial and should only be used if your Yorkie is at quite a bit of risk of getting the disease. It should not be given when they are so young and it is better to not give it in a combo shot.

Corona and lepto are not necessary unless the risk is very high for your dog to actually get the disease, which is usually not the case. Bordatella should really only be given if you go to dog parks and/or take your dog for grooming.

| I am sorry I meant Dec 08 was the first set- and then Feb 09 was the 2nd set. Then again in March. I have been stressed out with this whole thing since the visit and still am because I want to get her spayed which I don't know when to do it now. Or if I should change vets.

| Sometimes bigger vet centers are not always better. A lot of the vaccines that the vet requests you to have are not necessary and really depends on what region of the country you live in and if theres a high incident case. My vet knows that I do not want to give any vaccines that arent truly necessary. He'll usually tell me about the vaccine(pro's and cons)...give me time to think about it at home..and then if i want it to call for another appt. This is the time i use to do research on the vaccine. If you dont feel comfortable with this vet..then by all means, i suggest you change immediately. This is your baby's life and you should have a trusting and comfortably relationship with your vet.

I am at work and the vaccination chart is at home. In Dec she was given 2 shots, I believe a DHLPP (cor, lepto, parvo, etc.) and Bordatella? then in Feb she was given a followup to the DHLPP and Rabies.

| Unfortuantely though there is nothing I can do about the previous vaccinations she has recieved and can only concentrate on future ones. I am glad to hear that other yorkies are not getting there teeth until later in age as well. My breeder said I can take Allie to her vet to get her spayed, which is what I might do. the only problem is its an 1 1/2 hr away from where I live.

It should be started no earlier than 8-10 weeks. So it would depend on what the date was in Dec. and then what the date was in Feb. If DHPP was at the very end of Dec. when she was 14 weeks old and then at the very beginning of Feb. when she was 18 weeks, you would be okay. If they weren't given 3-4 weeks apart, she is not fully protected. If you aren't sure but she has already had at least 1 DHPP after 16 weeks, then another at 20 would be okay. Now she is 7 months, right? It is just hard to answer without the dates. If the tech gave her a DHPP in Feb. and your vet repeated it 3-4 weeks later, she should be okay. It is just fine for techs to give vaccines under the supervision of a vet. Without veterinary permission, it would be against the law I think. Some vets do not accept breder-given vaccines because they have no way of knowing if it was done right, if the vaccines were stores properly, etc.

Ok I will check the dates and right back tonight specifically when/what she was given. My next question is then should I have her get the 2 followup shots to the DHLPP and Bordatella that the vet wanted her to have this month?

| Probably not but I'd want to see the dates before answering.
