| ![]() Please help us. My friends dog was just diagnosed with pancreatitis the other day, they took her in, keep her (i think overnite) gave her meds, and an injection of fluids to keep her from dyhydrating. They told her to feed chelsea boiled chicken, rice and some cottage cheese. i got a call tonight, and shes not keeping it down and has had some diarraha. She's unsure what to do at this point. Is it normal for her baby to get worst before she gets better. please advise. ![]()

| ![]() Hi Sharon....my little female Yorkie, Winnie had pancreatitis about 5 years ago. She was very sick, couldn't walk, eat or anything. My vet kept Winnie for about two days and just gave her meds and IV fluids. She eventually got all better. We can't give her any red meat what so ever. We have her on Beneful (sp?) Healthy Diet and she has done fine since. I hope your friends little one gets better soon. Tell her to hang in there, but if her little one is getting no better, take her back to the vet. Keep us posted on her progress. Cindy |

| ![]() If she in continuing to throw up, she needs to go back to the vet and put on an IV. There is too much variation in different types of cottage cheese and chicken and their fat content. The vet needs to give them something like Science Diet I/D.

| ![]() Definitely have her go back to the vet. Pancreatitis is deadly if left untreated, especially to these little ones. If she is still throwing up then the fat content in her blood is still to high and needs to be attended to. Fluids to flush the system is usually the first course of treatment. She is going to need to be put on a special diet, and it must be maintained in order for the pacreatitis to subside. Tell your friend to research about this disease, because if left unchecked it may lead to liver disease or livermegaly or even to CHF. Best wishes for your friend, and her friend! |

| ![]() No, it's not normal for them to get worse. It sounds like the vet tried conservative treatment, but more supportive care is needed. She needs to be hospitalized and have an IV IMO. |
