| Donating Senior Yorkie Talker | Amanda, Wow, I've heard about these leg/hip issues so much lately. Is this a genetic deffect? My girlfriends dog started limping Saturday at the dog meet up group we started going to,and she took hi mto the vet and they think it's Legge Perthes. He has xrays tomarrow to be sure. Is this something that the smaller dogs get? And Aiden my 12 pound moose..seems to be o.k. so far. I wish you all the best. Sending Hugs to you and your little one. Keep us posted. Melissa and Aiden

Legg-Perthes IS genetic and seems much scarier to me (for some reason) than luxating patellas, although I know the surgery used to fix it (femoral head osteoectomy) is an easier operation to perform.

| Oh my gosh I am so thankful that you saw this than. I had no idea Hot Rod had LP. PLEASEPLEASEPLEASE keep me updated on both the surgery and recovery. I haven't yet met with the surgeon so I don't know ANYTHING. My vet last night pulled out the anatomy book and showed me the different scenarios. I guess it's pretty bad when the leg bows, from what I understood, it is all related. I guess they will have to pin/plate it? I was so in a fog last night I am getting things confused but please let me know that Hot Rod is ok and what your recovery instructions are. Is it both legs?[/QUOTE] Just talked with the vets office and he will be going into surgery within the next 1/2 hour or so. It is just one leg that at a 3. The other is a 1. He said that at this time he cannot say if it will ever get worse or not but feeling it it doesn't appear that it is that bad. The dr also brought in a color diagram and went through each scenario of what might be the case and talked with us about the approach to "fix" it. He told me that he would call after surgery and his staff has assured me that he will be calling right after surgery so that makes me feel good. In my thread I said that he has a yorkie of his own so I feel so much better about him. lol. Once the shock wears off I am sure you and hubby will be able to make the best decision for little Ranger. He's in great hands.

Please let me know the recovery protocol they give you. That is what I am so concerned about. I have been thinking about Hot Rod all day. Oh, how big is he?

| Thank you! Those are the things I always say to everyone else but it's so much harder when it's your own baby!

| Hey Lisette. Ranger is fine, he never acts like he's in pain, but when we play outside, he definitely packs that leg around. I even saw him packing the right one last night, or maybe I was seeing things. ![]() Thanks Marci. I am just sick about it. I shouldn't have looked at Hot Rod's post-op pics, because they put me into tears again.

| Hey all... I called yesterday morning to schedule Ranger's surgery, thinking they would be 3-4 weeks out. When the gal said "How about next Tuesday?" I almost threw up. The surgeon we chose is about three hours away. We have to be there by ten and will have a consultation. Then he will get his surgery. He actually gets to come home that night, which I can't be more happy about. I know I can take care of him much better than anyone else can. Since it's a strong possibility he will have to have both legs done, I made an appointment with a groomer for Friday afternoon to get his little body cut short. I would rather it all be close in length and all grow back together. <sob> I don't know home I'm gonna do all this guys
