I know what you mean about the neutering being bad enough. While JoJo did great, his Mama and Daddy didn't. Good luck with Ranger's surgery.
Aww, poor JoJo. They do have more problems when they are tired- when fatigued, the soft tissue losens up and isn't able to hold the patella into place. I am supposed to do short period of play with Ranger to keep him occupied so as not to get him too tired to where he starts to luxate. That's gonna be fun....

This stuff is very common in little dogs. I have to believe the luxating patella is a congentital defect, although it can be caused by stress on the legs such as jumping, running, etc. I have to assume that if two yorkies do the same activity (say frequent jumping on/off something), and if one is predisposed through genetics and the other isn't, obviously the predisposed one will have a problem.

Legg-Perthes IS genetic and seems much scarier to me (for some reason) than luxating patellas, although I know the surgery used to fix it (femoral head osteoectomy) is an easier operation to perform.
