| Quick Question about Feeding Times! Baxter is four months old, five months on March 14. I usually feed him in the morning around 10:30, again around 12ish, and again around 5ish. I was just wondering if this was too much or too little for a puppy? My vet recommended that I 'free feed' him, giving him food whenever his bowl is empty. That is basically what I do now, because Baxter eats his food in little bits throughout the hour. But what I was really wondering was when I needed to stop feeding him three times a day and only two? What age is he considered old enough? Thanks in advance!

| I switched from free feeding to scheduled meal times around 7-8 months and then we moved from 3 to 2 meals a day around 1 year. Every now and then, if they are super active, we feed 3 meals a day. It just depends on my mood.

| You don't ever "have" to switch. It is your choice. I would not feed a very small Yorkie of any age only twice a day and I wouldn't consider switching the schedule til probably after 8-10 months. Just personal preference... Unless your pup gets a bedtime snack or he eats his kibble up until bedtime, I think there is too much time between the night and morning feedings.

| I have a yorkie and a mini schnauzer. Because I have to get up and leave for work early in the morning I feed the girls at 6AM then again at 6PM when I come home. They seem to have no problem. My yorkie is my problem child so she gets wet in the morning with medicine in it(shhh! It's a secret! ) and then dry in the evening along with the schnauzer. In the evening I leave the dry food down for them to snack as they please until bed time. |

| My yorkie is 1 yr and 2months and my schnauzer is 2 yrs and 2 months. They're a handful to say the least. Lola, the yorkie, walks all over Gracie, the schnauzer.

| Aw! I know what you mean. My roommate has a dog about the same age as Baxter, and is almost twice Baxter's size, yet Baxter, my yorkie, seems to push my roommate's dog around all the time! Every time we give the two treats, Baxter will run over to Bailey (my roommate's dog) and snatch the treat OUT OF HER MOUTH! I try and stop him, but it is kind-of funny and cute.

| You should feed a tiny less after neutering to prevent weight gain. For now - however you want to feed is fine. You can't over feed a puppy. I do think your last meal of the day should be at least 7 or 8pm ... too much time in between last and first feeding. |
